Well, here's some of my latest out of polish. The quartz on the outside is quartz I collected at Lake Buchanan in January. The ones in the middle is rutilated quartz cookie sent me. And from another angle This is some pet wood and golden wood from our Falls City trip. Other odds and ends that were in that batch. Our local flint check out this little fossil. Can't believe it made it through the entire process without breaking! Neat! The "rock" next to it isn't a rock at all - it's a piece of wood. It came out of my pet wood bucket and looked like pet wood when it went in the tumbler. When I discovered it was wood during the wash cycle after 60/90, I just left it in out of curosity. Think I am going to put a finish on the wood, drill a hole in it and put it on a chain. That's all folks, til the next batch comes out whenever that may be! ;D llana

Hey Llana, I've tried to run a lot of shell fossils with no luck at all. You were very fortunate that it held together. Did it run in your rotary or your vibe? I like everything!

hey, llana, great run! love the mix (the mongrel mix), i love the little wood piece too! i may add a piece of wood to my next grind, will have to start looking for some nice hardwood-wanna-be....
how much volume did it lose in the process?
thanks for posting, love to see what you are doing!

LLanago.
I think its great that you take such time to position the stones in a circle of your choice after getting them out of the last polish cycle.
You have selected to go light on the outside ring, then a darker ring, then light for the one in the middle.
Can you fix them like that?
Just wondering - I think all those rocks in that circle would look great on a wall pic.
Essence.
Andy.

They are all very nice, my favourites though are the "odds and ends". Oops, I take that back...the fossil shell, THEN the odds and ends. Well done.

Very nice Llana! You've made me so proud Why can't I get my rutillated quartz to look like that? I gotta get back in the 'Hooch and get some more, if it has that kind of potential. I've got your flint and some pet rock in polish now. It's all I can do to let it roll 24 more hrs, but I won't be sorry if I do. Some of the pet I'm gonna back up to 600 one more time. Really pretty colors in that stuff! Thanks! Oh yeah, while gem grubbing the other day we found a tiny little conk shell fossil. Thought at first it was a metal nut or something, but we looked at it under a loupe and you see the lines in the shell. cookie

Thanks all. Ron, I didn't even know the little fossil was even in the batch til I got them out of polish. I was so excited when I saw it. I don't know if it was attached to something else when I started this batch in the rotary or if it was a single piece. It went in the rotary for three weeks then in the vibe for medium thru polish stages. Amazing that it didn't get smashed all to heck! KD, I don't know how big the wood chip was when it went in, so really don't know how much volume it lost. I don't think it was much bigger when I saw it floating in the bucket when I was cleaning the rocks the first time. I'm gonna put a polyurethane/tung oil finish on it and see what it looks like. Will post a pic of it when I finish it. Andy, someone posted a pic of their batch in a circle and I thought it I would try it. I didn't even think about the colors when I did it. Just wanted to put all the quartz I had found together, all the rutilated quartz together and that single white one in the middle, I couldn't figure out where it came from! It's quartz too, but different from the other pieces. Hmmm, I might play around with some different backgrounds and take some pics. I have some pieces of felt in various colors. Never thought about taking pics to frame or mount - got all the stuff I need to do that! Rollingstone, if you like the "odds and ends", you'll love my next batch. It's a full blown "mongrel mix" of odds and ends! LOL! Be another week or so before it's out of polish though. Will post a pic just for you! Cookie, I love that rutilated quartz. I have at least one piece in the batch I am working on now and maybe more. I just tossed in the smaller pieces you sent me - haven't cut the larger ones yet. Hope the bigger ones are as nice as the small ones! You need to get your fanny out and get to collectin' some more of that stuff before it gets to cold to go wadin' in the river! Doc, the dalmation stones really don't have a very good shine on them. Those are the first ones I have done and have some more somewhere! I was thinking I will probably take those, along with a bunch more I am not happy with the shine one, and send them all together back through pre-polish and polish again and try for a better shine. llana

Those are Great Llana!!! Congratulations on that tumble batch! I'm just crossing my fingers hoping that the quartz that I'm tumbling gets as nice as yours did. My favorite ones from your batch are the pet wood, I will try to find some of them in the woods. I don't know how to recognize them yet, I guess they most be brown. Who knows maybe I get lucky and already have one hidden in the mix batch that I'm tumbling! I also like your dalmatians and the calico rocks that I don't know what they are but are just gorgeous! You just did a Great job Llana! ;D

Sands, don't know what most of those rocks are, except the Dalmation stones, mook & the green adventurine - that's why I called them "odds and ends" ;D I have been really happy with all the flint I have done - doesn't matter what kind of polish you use, it will take on a great shine! Kim, I really like that rutilated quartz. Cookie needs to get on her wading boots, hit the river and collect some more! Moon, I'll take a couple of pics of some pet wood fresh outta the field and post them for you to get an idea of what to look for. Once you actually see a piece, you won't have a bit of trouble spotting them. Bob, got the IM and YES, YES, YES, I wanna go. Already put it on my calendar. Was thinking about going to the rock shop tomorrow, but I'll just wait til the 18th for the picnic. Will be neat to meet everybody. Don't have anything to swap, but will swap money for cool stuff! LOL! I am sure BE will want to go too. Sorry you can't be there, but I am sure we will try to make it to the meet in San Antonio. What kind of stuff do they swap? Never been to a rock club swap meet. llana

You did a great job. The shell really interested me because I am going to take some old thick shells that I have and see what happens if I try to polish them. I will probably run them a lot shorter that I do the rocks, but hey you never know unless you try.

LZ, I have never been to a rock swap either but you can trade, sell or buy anything that has to do with rocks or lapidary. If I were you I'd bring along a few walking sticks. You never know what you'll see at a swap meet of any kind. Maybe even some used equipment. Should be fun.
