Had fun working with some new stuff. The Josephine's Crown was new, as was the ruby spinel and bustamite. All fun to cab. The richterite/bustamite was the most satisfying. It's pretty ugly before the polish and polished really, really well. Too bad about the healed fractures, but I'm sure you've seen them in sugilite, too. This cab has a little sugilite, too. All from the same mine. The pietersite was one of the hardest cabs to polish that I have ever done. There are a lot of fibers and chatoyancy in it. The scratches between the fibers were tough to polish out, but after about 45 minutes, I was happy. The deschutes has a blue/gray sky, hard to tell in the picture. The ruby spinel in schist didn't photograph well. It's much nicer in the hand with the black background and pink spinels. Thanks for looking! ETA- I used cloudinary to drag all the files into the page at once and this is how it formatted. Pretty cool! I'm lovin' it!

Su-weet set of cabs! Yes, those formation veils in sugilite and richterite are nearly unavoidable, but add to the scene in your piece (nice mix of cloudy colors, too - the veils might be lightning bolts on a stormy day). Deschutes is awesome, too.

I had a Josephine's Crown phase. Spent way too much. Been slabbing it now and then.

Nice! The pietersite looks very misty. And the Bruneau is way cool!

That pietersite was sure worth the effort. I would have guessed mohawkite for the one beneath the pietersite. Never hear of josephine's crown till now. Great set of cabs.

The two are a lot alike. The Josephine's crown has a lot of different kinds of metal in it. Including chalcopyrite, which I don't think mohawkite does, but I could be wrong.
