It's really beautiful. Please enlighten the rock challenged, what is it?

puppie it's blue tigers eye (hawkseye). the direction i took the pic from makes it show green but it's really blacks and brown. the eye pin and beads are sterling silver but look more goldish in the pic.

Hey Kim, I like that! I'm glad to hear that your drilling is working out for you. It opens a whole new world of possibilities for your rocks. Keep up the good work!

Great job Kim, did you do this with a dremel or regular drill or drill press or what? I'd like to try on my heart, but I need some other stuff to try first.

well if i had been able to just focus on one task it probably wouldn't have taken nearly as long. but adding in fixing supper, feeding the animals, and not being organized and digging everywhere to find my tools, those beads and that split ring and then going through 3 trays of goodies while i'm supposed to be looking, opening up my package from wigjig and digging through all that, trying to rig the dremel to hand from the cabinet, searching for a pan and a piece of tile, dashing to the computer to order some more things - i probably drug a 45 minute job out into 5-6 hrs - and people wonder why i never get anywhere on time.

I'm really envious, Kim! Wish I had the stuff to drill holes in rocks. Got part of it, just not all of it yet.
You did a great job on the rock (I love tiger eye), the hole, and the wrap! Congrats!

Oh yeah, how long does it take to drill a hole in a rock (not counting the cooking dinner and other necessary stuff)?

Why were you hanging your dremel from the cupboard?

cher i put that flex shaft on it (looks like something a dentist would use). if i hang it it keeps the dremel and wires out of the way.

sorry barbara i forgot to answer you. i used a thin rock and it took about 20 minutes.
ron how long does it take you to drill all the way through a rock from top to bottom?

Oooooo ... ok, I have the flex shaft with mine too but haven't tried using it yet. So that's all you used to drill the hole then? You don't have it set up with the drill press attachment, just held it in your hand?

i don't have a drill press attachment yet so i held the 1st one in my hand then put the 2nd one in a plastic pan with a piece of tile on the bottom. i don't have any glue or glue release agent so i just held the rock tight against the tile and drilled. i think the 2nd method worked better as the rock was submerged in water. i think ron's method will definitely work the best though. i need a work area . kim

Kim, that is really pretty. One would never know that that's the first time you drilled a rock! I like the two little beads on top. The stone is beautiful!
i probably drug a 45 minute job out into 5-6 hrs - and people wonder why i never get anywhere on time.
I see you have read my book "How to Turn a 30 Minute Job into a 6 Hour Job in One Easy Lesson". Everytime I get ready to do something I end of having to dig through cabinets, drawers, the basement and anywhere else I put things so I will remember exactly where they are. Yeah, right! ;D

Hmmm wonder where I can get a piece of tile to use as a base for drilling. I can see where that sounds like the best way to go. But, if I can't get one, would using a piece of wood work the same?

Rose, you can get tile at any HomeDepot, Lowes, some hardware stores, a flooring store, or you could stop at construction sites and ask if they have broken tile they are getting rid of. I know at Lowes and HomeDepot you can buy a single piece. When I first started tumbling and getting interested in making pendants and such, I watched a gal in a rock shop drill rocks. She didn't use a drill press or flex shaft, just held the dremel in her hand. She used florist clay to hold the rock and put it in a butter dish and covered it will baby oil. Don't know exactly what kind of diamond bit she used, but she zipped right through that rock. Kim, you have inspired me to set up my dremel drill press, dig through all my junk and find my diamond bits (I put the somewhere where I would be sure to find them! Ha!), and try my hand at it. I have some tile, some florist clay, a pan, lots of butter dishes, baby oil, and Cool Tool, so I have everything I need. Just have to figure out where to set that thing up. Looks like it's time to rearrange and set up the tumblers down in the basement to make room for the drilling operation! Living in an RV and finding a place for 5 tumblers, a grinder and a drilling press set up is a challenge to say the least! If I buy anything else, I am going to have to just give the RV over to my rock addiction and put up my tent out back and live in it! ;D llana
