As always a super batch and pictures! Love that far left green in group picture 4 Thanks. That rock in the forth picture only looks like that on the crust side. The inside of the rock was solid dark green. No idea what it is but I think it is a Jasper. Chuck

Nice, Chuck Drummond Island Rocks. I like the plume in the second to the last pic, but it all looks great.

Thanks aDave. I always like the detail in the mosses but do get a little bored with the brown rocks after awhile. Chuck

As always a super batch and pictures! Love that far left green in group picture 4 If you look close that same rock is in the group photo and you can see where it turns to solid green. Chuck

Great variety there! I saw some bloodstone tucked away in there, too. Nice!

Nice batch as usual, Chuck. I have found two large rocks locally that look just like the green rock on the right of picture 4. In fact, I was just slicing one up yesterday. I believe mine is green quartz, probably not the same as yours, but the color is identical.

I brought home a pretty nice one like that from my Lake Superior trip a few weeks ago too. I would not mind a whole batch of those. Chuck

I have mixed feelings regarding my rock photography. I always want good photos to post but I can honestly say I have never gone back to look at the thousands of tumbled rock photos I keep archived. I have purchased at least four cameras for taking pictures of rocks and two of those were nice DSLR models. I found the DSLR to be more work then they were worth for my task. My go to camera is actually one of my oldest point and shoot cameras. It is a Sony DSC-HX200V with a great Carl Zeiss lens on it. I liked this camera so much that I bought a much newer version of the same model thinking it would be better but I could never get the same results with the new and improved model. So this camera I am using to post pictures here is at least 5 years old and has really been beat to heck. My kids have taken it on trips to France, Spain and Alaska leaving it with actual visible scratches on the lens and the LCD is completely scuffed up. If you seen the camera in person you would never believe it still takes decent photos. My lighting setup is as generic as it gets. All photos taken in my basement with two flexible lights I position as needed. One light is LED and one is fluorescent to really confuse things. LOL I just took these photos. I shoot everything on auto and the only editing I ever do is the exposure to get the most realistic color possible. For the most part I just hit auto exposure on my photo editor. Hope that helps Chuck

I should also note that I do have a light tent but I never found it to be worth the hassle of setting up. All of my shots are handheld and I take 3-4 shots of each item then pick the best when I get them downloaded.

Chuck Drummond Island Rocks , that is outstanding info. I'm using a DSLR, and my stuff lacks in comparison to yours. I've not gone "on the cheap" either, and it's been a struggle to find something that works well. I love your setup. Do you have info about the lamps you use and the photo editor? Currently, I have to put my camera on a tripod to do what I do. I'm not doing any photo editing, but I am taking about 4 photos of every item, just to deal with exposure compensation. Even though my lighting looks OK visually, it's still not bright enough to keep from using the tripod. The fact you're hand-holding says wonders. Great work, and thanks for the information.
