Outstanding! Is it backlit to show the orange? How large is it? Thanks.
3 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches on the average. Not black lit, but it was sitting in the sun is why the moghany showed up so good. the silver sheen shows up better in the photo than real life also. It does take a nice polish. It is triple flow with the black, mahogany and clear streaks.
The stone might be large or small; polished on what please? And let me add that is a fine looking stone.
Flat lapped on my 36 inch lap, sand with bull wheel using 100, 220, and 400 grit and then polished on my 36 inch polisher. I do need to back up with this slab and do some more work on it. not as good as it should be. the video is my polisher in action. I use cerium oxide on wool carpet.

Stunning piece! It looks like you can fall into that slab it's so deep.

I got a chunk on the lap now that I want to get polished, I expect it will be as good or better than these. I have to figure how to show the clear areas when taking the photos.
woodman That's the best piece of Obsidian I have ever seen
I remember folks giving directions on how to cut Obsidian to maximize the pattern and the sheen. It's still a bit confusing to me. If you have another piece that you are planning on cutting could post a couple pictures of how you plan on orienting the cut? I realize that not all Obsidian will have this pattern, however I have 2 or 3 large pieces that seems to be the flow and sheen variety.
Thanks Henry

I will do that but most of the time I get lucky! I am still learning myself, I have a big pile to work with!!

My lord you've got some pretty stuff!
We for sure need a video of it being polished.
Maybe back light it to get the clear areas?

rocknrob: That was one heck of a windstorm that thankfully missed me. I guess Seatac almost hit 60mph gusts. I bet those were some fun landings
