A few years ago I hooked up with a great knapper from Ohio... He did some great custom work for me, for a few years.. We did a swap trade with me sending him $500.00 worth of Elk and Moose antlers (included shipping),plus my material to custom make a knife and a few points... He was doing great, than started slacking off, making excuses and etc,etc... Its been over three years now and nothing!! No return PH calls, no emails, took me off his F/B page, etc.... He lives in Ohio, if it was closer, yes I would make a road trip!!! OH YES I WOULD!! I told him to even just send my material back and a few boxes of Ohio Flint and I would forget the whole thing...NOTHING! His name is Chad Hoffman, stay clear he is a tool for sure!!!!

I always wonder what happens to people in their life that they go from a good business person to one like this I hope you get closure on this.

I wonder if jamesp has had any dealings with him yet related to his knapping glass. If not, this might be a good heads up for him.

Thank you for letting us know. I have met him and sold to him but, not in a few years.
If you ever need any custom knapping done, I would be happy to fix you up.

Sorry, Mike. Shows you just never know. Too bad, sounds like you both could have had a long and profitable relationship.

I don't know this guy but my pop had a taxidermy shop right until he got real old, in his nineties. He didn't want to turn his friends away so he kept taking in critters till he was actually too old to mount them or even remember who belonged to what. When he died and the responsibility for cleaning out his shop fell to me, I found piles of stuff, a freezer full of carcasses, skins, horns etc and a log book that was unreadable gibberish. No way of contacting customers and the shop had to be cleaned up in four days because mom was selling and going into assisted living. I felt super bad that so many trophies were just to be dumped but no solution to the problem as he was a one man show. Sometimes when a seller fails to deliver, especially in this hobby that is popular with oldies, it's just that folks have died, gotten too old, forgetful, feeble or whatever. Tough, but it happens......Mel

Where in Ohio? I know people that know people that could send him a message... unclesoska, awesome, you are my type of guy. I spent time in mainland China and know several Triad folks that work out of Hong Kong, nice people really, perhaps they could hook up with the people that know people, that know people, that could send him a message and the Triad folks would then make sure he not only returned all the goods he received, he would gladly return any and all equivalent financial interest and would commit to providing knapping services free of charge for life. First they start with a chisel on the end joint on the little finger and work up. Its amazing how quickly the person being persuaded agrees to do whatever is being asked, urahhhhh. Cheers, johnw

My brother in law rode with the NWPMC, a chapter of The Gypsy Jokers, (Portland,Oregon)... They did stuff like that, he always told me to hit him up with any favors, I stayed clear of that though... He layed his patch down from the Club, it was getting to deep and crazy for him.. He had feelings....

I have all my fingers, if that's the reason behind the question about ring size. So, the people that know people, that know people, that could send him a message, do they come from Brooklyn? Cheers, johnw

the Triad guys are ok if you don't cross them and generally leave western folks alone. I have all my fingers, if that's the reason behind the question about ring size. There's a really weird truth to this sort of thing. Years back, living in Los Angeles, friends of mine and I were heading to an 80s night at some club or other -- dressed ridiculously, I mean I was in all the crazy 80s Madonna ruffles and crinolines to give y'all some idea! Someone else was dolled up as Bowie... Not the time you want your car to break down in the middle of the freeway.Car finally pulls over, must have been ten people all in gang colors and ink piling out of it. We were convinced we were screwed. Nope. They literally picked up the car enough to roll it down the offramp to the nearest gas station, totally friendly, completely chill. Said people who looked like they just wanted to do something silly for a night shouldn't get killed stuck on the freeway and we probably would have, and that we looked like we'd be fun to talk to, they loved 80s music, and we nailed the costumes and they just wanted to see them. (Being fashion design students may have saved our butts from disaster, who knew?) Life's weird, y'all. Life's weird. But sometimes in an unexpectedly cool way.
