Checked these at lunch and right or wrong I'm moving them along, so I'd like the opinions of some of you here on RTH. It's my first time tumbling and some of them I love, some of them I like and some I'm a bit disappointed in. I was limited to what I had collected myself, which isn't a bad thing. Maybe someday I'll spend money on other rough, but I'm not there yet. I'm posting just a couple pics here but also a link to an album- if anyone gets time, please look. Any input is appreciated! Those look good to me. The second one is a killer rock. That one should be really cool when done.
You mention that these are out of stage two (220) and then questioned moving them on. I never inspect my rocks after stage one. I may spot check a couple to see if the batch is ready to move on but never hold back any rocks after stage one. If a rock makes it to stage two that means I already looked at it and already decided it was either ready or that it was as good as it was going to get. I suppose that trust is learned over time though.

I'm trying to learn what works in tumbling and what doesn't- hardly something I can learn in just one tumble! But I'll get there. That second one is that way all of the way around the entire rock. It's nuts. And thanks!

I moved several with pits- I think they're as good as they'll get. Hopefully I'm not settling! Again, the trust and experience will come eventually. Thanks!

Those are pretty awesome, Mr Mike miket . You hounded some nice stuff. Were you wearing your tie at lunchtime when you moved them on? Must have some mojo in it. ETA - I think those were ready, real beauties!

A very nice look coming out of #220. They will be superb when you pull them out of cerium oxide (final). Great start.

They look very good. I’m still working on my first stage and trying to get enough well shaped stones to move on. This forum is great, lots of helpful info.

Took a look at the album, nice rocks. Those all form Nebraska?
I'm like Chuck, once they come out of rough there is no more decision making.
I do still inspect but that is to check for any new chips/cracks, and also to be sure any voids I may left in the rocks are clean.

Thanks, yes they're all from here in Nebraska, about 40 miles from me. Approaching the border of South Dakota. I'm trying to learn that skill. I did move some along with some pits after trying to clean them out well. I guess I'll see what the final product looks like!

I looked at few of the pictures in your link. Several of those are prime candidates for some quick work on a trim saw or tile saw. This rock is a great example. I would trim off the flawed area and then I would round over the edges on a diamond wheel to match the rest of the rock. From there it would go back to stage one for one week. Then it would be flawless and ready for stage two. Chuck

Then it would be flawless and ready for stage two. I wouldn't even bother with a wheel. Just round the new edges over on the tile saw. A cycle of course grit should take care of it from there.

I think I'll run it the rest of the way through and then perhaps do as you advise...
