OH my goodness... where to start with that guy. He's a lazy slug who has let his store inventory drop to historic low levels and hasn't sold a damn thing all month because of it. Of course he's probably working his butt off on new cabs right? naaaaw... he's sitting around playing Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time for the third time while pretending to look for work and complaining that his hands and wrists hurt.
I wouldn't trust him as far as I could pick his fat ass up and throw him.

Are you moved into your next home yet? Not yet - goal is middle/end of January. Renovation is starting to kick into high gear however. We are working on the garage first with the goal being to build my new workshop. It started with a dump run and major reorganization to clear some massive cabinets out of the way. Prepping and painting throughout and carpet in the upstairs are a must. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to install the carpet myself... I'm leaning towards yes if I can find the right deal. It is an honor to commence working on the graphics for you my friend |

Lo How The Mighty have GROWN!  Hi all, this is my first post here so first I want to say hello and complement you guys on a great site. I've been casually fascinated by rock hounding for many years but it has elevated to an obsession lately. I mostly like to tumble agate and jasper pebbles from frequent trips to the coast, but a serious crash on my mountain bike last summer and two subsequent surgeries later have left me with a lot more time to obsess on rocks and I'm dabbling in cutting. So anyway - I found these two black looking rocks in the Black Butte/Stony Creek area and I have as of yet found anyone who has a strong opinion about what they are. The black is a solid black with the streaks of red obviously. They are a VERY heavy stone for their size and I think I was able to scratch a steel nail with the smaller one but that confuses me so I might not have done it right. My brother who is a long-time rock hound and expert cabber thinks it might be some type of wood. The larger rock is shown wet to make the red streaks pop. I don't have the capability to cut it due to it's size ... so I put it in my aquarium for now ... the round area shown resembles a limb/knot and if I do cut it I want it to be perfect. Anyway, thanks for your time in reading all of this :-)      Black and heavy along with red makes me think magnetite with red jasper (red from the iron). See if a magnet will stick to the black part. *ding ding* we have a winner :-) thank you blackout5783 it is definitely magnetic. Thanks all for the responses - Helen thanks for the kind words of welcome. So I wonder what can be done with magnetite other than a pretty aquarium rock? |

I have never met the guy in person, nor purchased form him. He did purchase from me and I have sent him items for RTH auctions. Everything was completed in a timely manner with great communication. Since he has taken over as RTH Administrator for RTH, I have seen a lot of good things happening here. OK, that was my professional opinion. Now on to the personal one. Love you Tommy. Your dedication to the forum and Facebook page. Your willingness to help others, by offering support on their threads. Your cabs are amazing, a real eye for quality and layout. You get it. PS, I loved seeing that early post of yours. You have come a long way since then. |

Tommy I would like to know more about your brother - mentioned in that first post. Older? Younger? Still hounding? RTH member? Pictures or he doesn't exist. P.S. Any idea where this pet wood came from?  Arizona wood usually has more cell structure. BTW, that first post - looks like there is enough agate in it to cut some deceent cabs.

He is real even without pictures but I'll try to scare something up. In the mean time, this can be verified by Garage Rocker . He has met my older brother Steve and my uncle Mike and graciously took them up to visit his favorite local KY agate guy. Back here in CA, Steve owns a thriving termite inspection and repair business in the Redding CA area and works himself to death. He was a prolific cabber and seller of cabs for a long time starting about 2004 until he put it down for a while. Mostly now he collects (hoards) material from estate sales etc. and is saving it (along with four large saws) as a retirement plan of sorts. Not sure if he comes on here much - he knows about us and I think he lurks occasionally but I don't think he ever signed up. Edit: P.s. as a side note, Steve is the builder of my home made cabbing machine I talk about a lot. I think he was building it for himself right about the time I got into the idea of cutting cabs - but he's generous and giving and didn't hesitate to hook a brother up with a serious machine to learn on. I'm 99% certain that it's AZ wood. Like I said in that early post I bought it at a garage sale flea market and I think I still have it if I didn't give it away. I'm not much of a collector of material. If I can't cab it I usually don't keep it. I never did find out what exactly that material was and I still have bits of it around in my junk boxes. I made a mistake in saying it was magnetic. The smaller pieces also shown in the pictures were magnetic but the large piece with agatized looking areas didn't have a lick of magnetic properties. Shortly after that post I took it up to Steve's and chopped it all up on his 18" saw. I gave him probably half the slabs and kept some and dabbled with cabbing it with a low success level. It wouldn't take a shine worth a damn although that didn't stop me from trying. I sold a couple of cabs as "red lightning jasper" in the early days of my Etsy store before I learned that quality photographs are important    |

I told them they were dealing with the Godfather of RTH and that they should pay particularly good attention to getting every detail correct.  I think you're going to love it! |
