[The tools on the right side of the photo (not including the fork), are they tools used for working on clay that is being turned on wheels?
Yes. The only difference is that I've sharpened them and I use them more for scraping than gouging.

I find it interesting that upon doing a Google search for "clay sculpting tools," a bunch of links for pumpkin carving tools popped up. It must be due to it being that time of year. Thanks for all of the info you've provided. I find the education about the process fascinating. Keep putting out great work.

Here are some of my primary tools — Passing on some info I learned to prolong the life of pumpkins. Submerge them in water (I used a 40 gal cooler) with approx 1-2 cups chlorox bleach. Leave in overnight, and then re-dunk every 2 nights when done displaying. I have gotten my carved pumpkins to last 3-4 weeks.

opalpyrexia I just looked through your album. All of them are awesome, but I have to say my favorite is the one with the spider on his nose. It actually made me laugh.
Thanks for letting us see one of your other artistic talents!

As requested, here are my pumpkin carvings (no comparison to yours) haha! I have never done that style of carving but I really enjoy it, and yours are very cool! There's really no limit to what might be possible with that technique.

saxplayer and miket your pumpkins are great, too! Sadly, I never had much talent for it, another reason why I enjoy seeing other people's work. Happy Halloween!

Here's what I did with my biggest pumpkin that I grew this year. My grandson really likes Spiderman so that's what I carved for him. Of course I had to put a picture with him in it, but mostly it was to show the size. Mostly. You grew this? This pumpkin is awesome. Very large size and great shape from the angles I see!

The only way I could do it is with a pattern. There's no way I could sculpt a pumpkin. Carving one with a pattern just takes patience.

Yeah, it was the biggest so of course I gave it to him! Thanks for the compliment- however, I showed the best side. The flat part is on the back

Shhhhh....... if you hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known. Yeah well I in no way pretend to have any artistic abilities. The things the people here on RTH (yourself included) are amazingly creative. I can find rocks, sure. And it remains to be seen if I can tumble them. But the wraps, the jewelry...I give credit where credit is due. Happy Halloween
