Hi all, I found this a couple months back. It's about a 7 on the Mohs scale. Not sure what it is? I have others similar to it, but they are more round, anywhere from 2" to 5". Jimmy

I'm sorry Jimmy, I have no idea. Looks cool though, I have to admit, I would have cracked it open by now to see what's inside. I can't stand it when I see rocks like that one that look like they might have great potential inside. ;D

chip a piece off and let us see the inside - you've gotten 3 different answers and 2 were from people who have some real knowledge - can you let us see inside?

If a grind of a corner is done, it is a window. The window can tell a lot. A rough grind can be made wet and that will tell the story.

Hey 69,
It looks like the Prairie Agates we find in the plains of Colorado. A milky white to sometimes a light gray with light white splotches on the inside of the stone.
That is my two cents worth,
John

Hi all, Well... after deciding to break it open, I can't seem to find it. It could be under the 6" of snow that just dumped on us. Hopefully I'll find it before spring, heh. Anyway's, I found one of the larger rocks and cracked it open.. Here's some pics of it. Sorry about the pics as they are from my old cam (no mega pixels here). They look quartzy inside, but different?? doc, I found these in my yard. They where dug up when I put gravel down for my driveway. There are a couple of rivers around here though, the Tanana and Delta Rivers. Could this be the newly discovered "tundra" agate that I've been looking for! LOL ...j/k Jimmy

You sure live in some pretty country! I lived in the bush near Mt Harper for about 18 mos. I would walk to Chilcoot, down to Eagle, and later to Arctic Village. I got my Phd., couldn't stand people anymore, went to Anchorage, my third ex wife decided to leave me homeless there. I had a denim jacket and a Buck General knife. It was the day after thanksgiving. I walked in and didn't look back untill four years later when I got about killed by the cold. I have no clue what that stone is. It looks like Scapolite when it is cracked open. I would love to see it polished. I miss Alaska. I tolerate Floriduh as I can sell what I make here. I miss the Aleuts and Tlinkits. I learned a lot from them. Mostly how to survive. I got hurt real bad by the snow. No amputations, but I lost an eye, the feeling in my hands and feet, my teeth shattered and the bones in my skull over my right eye came through the skin. The sinuses froze and erupted. Where you live, you do not learn from your mistakes, you die. I learned the meaning of that first hand. I had last rites there. I guess they were a little premature. I went into Nunavik on my third winter. I saw a lot on the walk. I miss Alaska. I really do. You live in paradise.
