Thanks for the responses and advice, everyone. Ordered a Rock Rascal this evening. grumpybill how do you like your Rock Rascal saw? I haven't used it for the past year or so...not because I don't like it...because I've completely lost interest in polishing, cutting and shaping stones. It apparently was a passing obsession. I bought it so I could cut stones indoors when it was too cold to use my 10" tile saw outdoors. The Rock Rascal makes very little mess. After I sealed up a few minor leaks, all I needed was a towel under it on the tray table I used it on. The blade that came on it was too thin/flexible. I couldn't cut intricate shapes or cut along the edge of the pieces. That might have been due to inexperience and/or because I was accustomed to the thicker Hot Dog blade on my tile saw. The tank needed emptied and rinsed often, especially when I was cutting glass or soft stones.

Thanks for your response. Would you then recommend the Rock Rascal for me? I want to cut shapes from slabs that I cut. Mostly Petoskey Stones so not very big.

Mostly Petoskey Stones so not very big. It's the only trim saw I've ever used, so I can't recommend it over anything else. All I can say is that it was highly recommended here and I have no regrets about buying it.

I have the Harbor Freight 4 inch tile saw. It is mostly plastic, has a motor louder than a jet engine, and flings water everywhere. But it works, is near impossible to stall, and cost me all of $40 when on sale. Blades are under $10 and for trimming it is the nuts. It is also ultra portable.
