I went and saw Solo in the IMAX theatre and I have to say it was well worth the time and money. Some spectacular and hair-raising views. He did use ropes to figure out the route he was going to take and to practice on it. The solo climb was done without any ropes at all. If you enjoy these kinds of stories, there are two documentaries I can recommend that are playing on Netflix. Valley Uprising is the story on the climbing scene at Yosemite through the years and The Dawn Wall is another first ascent story from El Capitan.

Read an article about him that included a bit of an interview when he was preparing for this. Very interesting. A man possessed for sure but very methodical in his approach. How he broke the different areas down and practiced with ropes beforehand was very telling- he knew the risks he was about to take but he also did as much as he thought he could to minimize them.

No words for what this guy does. He is on his own God level! There is no one else I think is capable of doing what he does. Alex Honnold if you haven't seen Solo you need to watch it. He climbed El Capitan with no ropes in record breaking time. He is truly in a class all of his own. Now he is basically a millionaire who climbs any where in the world he wants. I watched the climb at least 4 times just because it was amazing.

In his words, after the death of another highly skilled climber, 'what did you expect? That's what happens to climbers'.

If I sneeze on the cliff I fall to my death, you know, so I just make sure my sinuses are totally clear before I climb every time.
