Just curious. DH will be starting it and I was wondering what he might need as an accessory. I can find lists online, but first hand experience is always nice.

I haven't done it but I really would love to! Yeah, I can't wait to see what he does. He has the printer, but he hasn't had the time to sit down and put it together and play. I just bought him a 5 role of filament and a new glass printing platform. He's gonna love it! Right up his alley.

Chuck Thanks, Chuck- will do. yeah, feel free to ask - 3D printers still mostly require a bit of tinkering. But being a creative person yourself: have a wander around www.thingiverse.com/ (there are other repositories as well) People are darn creative. I think there's even a faceting machine mast model there. fun stuff. There are lots of design software packages/routes, so all depends on what you want to do, what experience you might have etc.

He has an entry level one- creality 3 Ender. He's already looking at some mods.

What materials will it print in? There are 3d printable waxes out there suitable for lost wax casting, or you can make a model and sand cast it.

The interwebs are full of sites with 3d models ready to print. What software is he using to create files?

3D plastic printers are really cool toys. In the automotive world we are starting to see more and more about 3D metal printers. They are producing parts and tooling for cars that could never be machined with traditional methods. They can 3D print Aluminum, Standard Steel, Stainless steel and H-13 hardened steel parts now. Chuck Didn't they print a rocket engine that works? Those printers are definitely not for home use. LOL!
