Hey could tell me about this stone please. What state is it from, what's the name of it any thing would be appreciated. Looks like I have some to Orange is brittle the black n clear like dedrictic agate As Alison said, Bob's piece is Glass Buttes obsidian. Yours appears to be agate, however. I don't recall any obsidian with white and green banding. The red in obsidian is also usually as glassy as the rest. The colors and patterns in your agate are ringing bells, but the brain cells aren't releasing the info yet. Perhaps someone will know right away over in the Rock ID section?

You're right! How long did it take you to find that one? Wickedly cool rock btw I saw it right away. see the other witch & crow on the right side ? I see the crow... How about the serpent with an underbite sneaking in from above to devour the crow?

Fabulous, no doubt about it. That said, it could also belong in the" what do you see in a stone" thread, cuz I see Leonid Brezhnev of Russia. Cheers, johnw

I wrote about Oregon's Glass Buttes Obsidian in my latest Rock and Gem Magazine submission for my monthly article "Bench Tips". It will be in the magazine either in the March or April issue. The article explains how to select the best pieces and how to cut them. This slab came from a 4-1/2 piece. Bob

To me it looks like flame and wisps of smoke rising from the bowels of tormented hell. I like it.
