Well I finally made it in and the tumblers they are a tumblin. If I get to any cool palaces with great rocks I'll post some pics. Here are a few pics of my setup and some random shots... Me before a patrol... What I normally ride around in... Crossing the Tigris in Baghdad... Tumbling away!!! I have to use a 220AC to 110AC converter because of the power. It is at 50HZ, however, and I've timed the tumble at only 30RPMs. I'm a little concerned that this won't be fast enough. We'll see. The motors aren't running any noticeably hotter so that's good... Waiting for a tumble. Some mook, assorted rough, golden and blue tiger eye, and some hematite from RosebudMN Thanks again). This should keep me busy for the next 8 months (not counting, not counting... Supply stack. This should be enough I think. I even have the coveted and ever controversial magic Mule Team powder...

I can't say it's a good thing but I'm glad you got there safely. Please be safe, like Sands said ... Keep your head down and watch your back. Hope the tumblers help the time to pass and continue to run steady and stong without any problems. Someone mentioned somewhere that if you can make the rollers bigger it would speed up the tumbling rotation. Maybe some tubing around the rollers might help to make them roll a little faster. Or even duct tape ... You're more than welcome JC, glad I had some to share. Cher

JC, you got it goin' guy! Pretty darn nice setup for being on a battlefield, or darn close to one! When you get back, will you come to my house and straighen up my rock/grit storage closet! It's a mess! If Iraq has any cool rocks, you know you can get you a little side biz going shipping some to us! And, it really be interesting to see how many of your fellow GIs might develope an interest in rock tumbling - esp. when you take that first batch of polished beauties out of the tumbler! Keep your head down, watch your back and come home safe to us. You will be in my thoughts and prayers! llana

Hi JC,
I'm a VET and know what it's like to be away from home for a long time.
You stick in there buddy and do what you have to do to keep safe.My prayers are there for you and all who serve in the military.
I don't think 30 rpm's is all that much off for that size tumbler. The smaller the barrel the faster you want to run but if you are running too slow it will just take longer.
JC,if you need ANYTHING at all just e mail me and it's yours.Beef jurkey, pepperoni, etc. or anything else.
If you just want to write,,,,,my email address is at the bottom of thius message.
Thanks for being there for us and God Bless You and keep you from harms way.

Thanks for the pictures JC. I'm glad you have what you need to tumble. I think you have more supplies than I have back here in the states. It's great that you have something to take your mind off of your current situation. As everyone else has said thanks for all your doing for us. Be safe and hurry home. Our prayers are with you. JC. That is dedicated! I wish you the best. I also am a Vet. Don't count the days. They will go faster that way. I watched guys going nuts counting short time. It looks like you and the tumblers got it going on. There are ammonites there, and fossilized shark teeth in the desert. I hope you find some. A lot have opalized material inside. Look at the ground, also look up. Be safe. We will all be thinking about you. Good luck.

Now that is just way too cool! Rock tumbling from Iraq! You should contact Fox News and have them do a segment on you. You never know, it might make for an interesting story. Do your buddies give you a hard time about rock tumbling? Some of mine can't understand it. I see you have all to goods too: Tiger-eye, Mook jasper, grit, borax and a M16 assault rifle! ! Please, be safe. I think that every one of us here really appreciates what you and all of our soldiers are doing. Thanks!

Very cool setup JC. Its an honor to have you on board here. God Bless and keep you safe. I think that is great you can have something like that to keep yourself occupied as days count down. I wonder if your day for departure might arrive and you may have some hesitation if you only have a few more days to go for your rocks to finish a cycle ;D Thanks for the pics, very nice shots. Geez, it looks like you really mean business! Best of Luck to you!

Way to go, JC! Great setup! Thanks for all that you and your fellow soldiers are doing for us! Good idea about planning ahead with your tumbling. Make sure you stop well ahead of your departure. In the meantime, keep low, keep safe. and please, keep your "rocks" safe, buddy! ;D
