Edit - I'm just going to make this thread my journal for all of my deer creek fire agate work this year. Seems better than making a new thread every time I finish a piece. I've spent the weekend sorting through 155 lbs of direct mine run material from Deer Creek. I found this little beauty in my pile of "A" grade material and decided to work it up tonight.

Now that's what I'm trying to accomplish!
Do you leave them like this or break it up after polishing?

Stunning piece! What is the size of the polished face? What method did you use to get this great piece?

Stunning piece! What is the size of the polished face? What method did you use to get this great piece? It's about the size of a nickel. I knew right away that this piece of rough was going to be a good one. Careful grinding revealed the colors I wanted. There's some bright color layers below the ones that I exposed, but I liked where I was at with the purples and didn't want to press my luck.

Finished these last night. Not high grade colors, but still nice stones. Not many color layers on this one, so I kept what was already there. Nice warm tones. Lots of layers on this one, but they all turned out to be varying degrees of bronze. Still made a nice stone.

Here's a grade of rough that is seldom seen. This is the best of my 155lbs of direct mine run at Deer Creek. Normally this grade gets graded out by the miner early on and sold directly to high end cutters. This is the pile that produced the first fire agate I cut in this thread.

Do you have a secret supplier or would you share your source?

I'm friends with the mine owner, and in January sometimes they will sell belt time at their mine in 1hr blocks. I bought 1 hour this year and they picked me 155lbs of rough in that hour. I hope they do it again next year.
