A State of Emergency has been declared in WI, due to the cold behind recent heavy snow. Wind chills tonight and tomorrow are expected to be -40 to -60 across the state. More snow and wind today will result in hazardous travel in some areas.
Wind chills by me are predicted to be around -50. If this happens, it will shatter the record for this area.
This system will move into Michigan and further East.
Please, if you are inclined, keep those in the Upper Midwest in your thoughts and prayers now. Later, those to the East in the path of this dangerous system.
Please include the public servants, livestock and those who must travel to work at retail establishments. The homeless, as we have many by me.
I have never experienced anything like this in my lifetime. It is very scary.
There are many RTH members in WI and MI and further East.
Thank you.

My daughter just reminded me of something. In late January of 2014, there was a 12" snowfall. Then lots of ice, then wind chills of up to -60 where I lived. At the time, I was in the hospital, with my fiance, who was dieing. I spent a week there, with him. Hospital maintenance crew moved my truck as needed for snow removal. They also cleared my truck of snow/ice. One would even leave it running for a while to ensure the battery remained charged. They also filled the tank with gas and would not accept any money from me. After fiance passed, hospital staff helped load everything into my truck. The temps had gotten warmer by then, but roads were still covered with ice.
While I was living in hospital, neighbors took care of my farm animals and birds. Some even walked a mile to get there, as roads were impassable.
So, I am appreciative of my daughter's reminder. Still I have never experienced anything like this where I needed to do all animal care, lived in an old house and, as of now, will have to go to work tomorrow night under extreme conditions.

Yes, stay safe. I'm sorry to hear about your fiance. What a terrible experience. It was nice to have angels looking over you.

LOL on stay inside. I have to do chores this AM. Then son in law will be coming this afternoon to help me figure out what is wrong with tank/dish heaters. I need to help him remove some extension cords in barn. Then attach them to my outside electric source. Also help repair some fencing that cannot take any more wind.
At least I do not work today. Son in law told me to go to town and get another floating tank heater. Only a 20 mile trip on icey roads with near white out conditions.
I really feel for all the farmers here who keep their cows mostly outside. Also those with birds and other animals. My tenant currently has a young calf in the barn and a cow who went into premature labor. Doing everything I can to help him ensure the safety of everyone he has on my property.

Everyone in that band of weather, stay safe. When you do have to go outside, make sure you're bundled up like the kid in A Christmas Story, with just your eyes uncovered so you can see where you're going.
I recall an extreme cold snap back in Chicago in the mid-80's, I believe. I seem to recall somewhere between -20 and -30 for temps, with wind chills in the -50 range. It lasted for about a week and I was working downtown. Had to take a bus to the El to get there. Waiting for them in that cold was numbing, to say the least. It was during those waits that I got some minor frostbite on my fingers despite having on a pair of gloves with heavy mittens over the gloves. It doesn't take that long.

I remember doing chores in freezing weather and deep snow. It's always around that time the animals decide to do something stupid

Haha, A Christmas Story- I watch that every year. And just like the movie, don't stick your tongues to a flag pole. Yes, be careful whoever has to venture out.

Got a call from my Sons in ND, they will be at -55F , without the windchill…. Most all roads are shut down from the ice and snow pack.. Did that crap for over 35 years there, don't miss it at all (Oilfields,Contruction and ranching).. But its called winter and it does hit those areas hard! Now they are getting normal winters, like our grandparents use to talk about! You just sit it out and keep warm..

Hang in there, Fernwood. Rough stuff, hopefully the worst will only be a few hours. It's hard with animals to worry about. Sorry to hear about your fiancé. It warms my heart, though, to hear how so many people helped care for both of you in your hour of need.
I'm in NW Vermont; it's not supposed to be as brutal here. Today is windy and snowing but has warmed up to 20 degrees, so, not too bad. We have already gone through more salt at work that we did all of last winter. Fortunately, we have a new snowblower at work; the old one wouldn't have handled some of the drifts we have been getting.
I have a piece of foam core (like the ones kids use for signs at the science fair) in my bedroom window, and it really helps cut down on the cold coming through. Got it at the dollar store.

North Dakota, dear God, please don't send me to North Dakota when I die. I can't have been that bad! I think the images of Hell are all wrong. I think Hell is a very, very cold place.

You know what I hate? Every time the weather is like this, you see the stories of the poor dogs out in the yard on a chain with no cover and frozen over water. Makes me want to punch someone right in the head. Poor things. I remember where one puppy was still alive while his body was frozen to the ground. There is a special place in hell for those morons.

In spite of it all THEY are still successfully selling the Global Warming Hoax. Not really global warming, but climate change. Some areas much warmer, some much colder. Some decreased precip., some increased precip.
