Thanks for the links llanago! Nice info there. I mentioned travelling to the gravel pit in Eagle Pass and my wife said "Oooo! I'll go!" before I could finish the sentence. I guess that's a yes. I'd like to try my hand at making jewelry from the flint rocks. They seem real hard and would shine up nicely. I'll try some of the other stones, too, but I've never tumbled before. Be prepared to be shocked at the destruction. ;D

Hello Gromit..welcome aboard.. I live just East of where you are...near Lake Somerville. Perhaps we can get together some weekend and go rock huntin'..... Lot of good hunting areas around the state. Let's give it some thought....this summer...make a weekend out of it.

Pho, I forgot you also live in this neck of the woods. As I mentioned to Gromit earlier in this thread, we should plan a trip to the gravel pit in Eagle Pass some weekend.
Also, the San Antonio Gem and Mineral Society is planning a weekend rockhounding trip to the Woodward Ranch in the Big Bend area sometime next year. I would assume in the spring sometime, since it is too bloomin' hot out there in the summer! I'm sure BSchultz will let us know when.

Hi phoenix1647. Sounds like a plan. It's hard to get permission to rock hunt with non-employees at the plant, but I've been given the go ahead before. It could happen again. My wife and I seem to be the only ones who do that there, so it's not picked over or anything. Other places would be cool, too. I'd bet my wife will jump at the opportunity. My only suggestion is that we don't go during dove hunting season. You have to be real quick to dodge the lead shot. ;D

Llana, you live just down the road from my Aunt. Small world eh? Always wanted to go to Texas, closest I ever got was a quick stop at the DFW airport on my way to Louisiana. Too cool that there's so many of you that live fairly close and could have a rock-hunting weekend like that.

Hi Gromit...Pleased to meet you. I'm a HUGE fan of both your animated inspiration and CHEEEESE! (no...seriously...I'm huge... ;D). Welcome to the board and thanks for the great pics. I'm seriously working on curing my case of rock envy. I live in the wilds of New Hamsha...sure it's the granite state, but I live in hope that there's more here to tumble than just that. Great rocks and welcome to the board.

Hi hermatite! It's good to meet you, too. I lived in Portsmouth for around 3 years and Hampton Beach for a year. Nice area. Looks like the quarry rock hunting is going on hold for a week. I need a new car and we're also going to move some stuff to a new storage. I'll post some pics when we do it, though. I was able to pick up a few stones at Shoal Creek yesterday. Slim pickings, but we just had a big storm (Flood) not too long ago and some stuff washed down from upstream. It's always nice to see what the water gods bring.

@ sandsman1 - I ventured towards the quarry today during lunch, but found the normal place that I look around completely under water. I went to another section and found 2 pieces of fools gold for you. (Sorry, but the larger one has a lot of copper coloring. The small one is pretty golden, though.)
We're on 12 hour shifts right now (7 - 7), so I won't be able to post pics until late.
PM me your address and I'll send them to you.

The rock gods must like you sandsman1. I went back to the quarry on foot this time and picked up some more fools gold for you. I only had about 30 minutes to spare, but here's the result... I hope you like them!
