In this case, the picture makes it look better in my opinion. I think the blue microfiber threw it off, in person the left is more olive colored and overall it's less orangey in real life. I don't think it's worth the cost, but if someone wants to pay shipping costs, I'm happy to give it away. Otherwise, I'll likely release it back into the wild SMH- That's a beautiful cab

I don't know what to do with it, and I can't keep them all...I'm already 1, maybe 2, rocks away from starring in an episode of hoarders

I was looking at it thinking - I would vote for that! I think it's a great cab and I love RSJ. Hang onto it. Put it away. Sometimes, I do something I don't like in the moment and come back to it later and think- what was I thinking? RSJ is getting hard to come by, too. If for nothing else, keep it as a specimen.

Okay, here it is. You all talked me into it: I decided on the wood. Both the wood and the jade I made today are complete free-hand, one-off freeforms, but the wood started out rougher and ended up with a nicer polish. Funny thing is, it was a spur-of-the moment decision to even make it. I had been thinking it would be the jade all week. The rough started out as a splintery, wonky piece that was roughly triangular in "height" and trapezoidal to rectangular in the other two dimensions (and, I guess, "ancient" in the fourth dimension... ). I took the rough and shaped all three dimensions simultaneously, because I basically had to move the apex of the dome over (as the triangle was lopsided) to make a free-hand, freeform pre-form. As much grinding as I had to do, I still minimized using the 80 grit wheel over the top, spending a little more time (and probably a few more diamonds) to do so. It seems to have worked well, as I didn't have to spend too much time on the 280 wheel (a good thing, since that is nearly bald). The rest of the polishing steps worked well, too. As there weren't any fractures, I took it all the way to 100k Super Cerium. Anyway, here goes nothin': DSC_0610_Pet wood rough (Phase 1) by Stephan Telm, on Flickr DSC_0618_Pet wood pre-formed (and domed) freeform (Phase 2) by Stephan Telm, on Flickr DSC_0670_Pet wood freeform cab (Final product) by Stephan Telm, on Flickr Enjoy!

Better late than never, right? Wave Dolomite according to drocknut who I received it from. One cab wonder, as received: I did some shaping with Dremel. Then had in 1 lb rotary barrel for a couple months. Babied to the hilt. Size reference: Entry: Photos of the size is a little blurry due to no sun here. Retook photo of entry today. I love how this cab turned out.

Tossin' my hat rock in the ring. This was a great theme, Susan Bluesky78987 .
The slabette for the one cab wonder, I think I picked it up at a show. Was not given an ID, but pretty sure it is Cathedral Agate. ID'ed by beefjello (thanks, Brian! ) as Bird of Paradise plume agate.
Would have preferred this to be the front, but didn't work out that way due to vug.
So this became the front.
View from a slightly different angle, showing off the botryoidal interior of the vug.
And done. Looks kinda like the helmet of a storm trooper, lol.
With sunlight shining through.
He looks really angry in this shot.
And a bigger pic.
Glenn, when the time comes, pick the one that works best for you.
Are we still doing resolutions? My resolution is to not watch for scratches so much that it makes me miss the big flat spot staring me in the face until after it was polished. Backed up a few grits and worked it some more, then polished it - again!
Edit to add - starting slab size was 2 X 1 1/4 X5/16 inch

It's the last day of the month and I wanted to support the contest and Bluesky78987 Susan's cool theme so I'm sliding in under the wire on this one. I bought this as a slab but it definitely turned into a one-cab wonder. In the whole slab there was one sweet spot and the rest was basically junk. The material is called Galaxy Rhyolite - it's very similar to Birdseye Rhyolite but it comes in a cool gray to blue background and takes a gorgeous shine. It's really beautiful in hand - I wish I had a bucketful instead of this one little expensive slab. Not surprisingly the piece sold quickly and is on it's way to a happy home in Europe very soon.
