Hi everybody -- this is a follow up on the local eastern MO rocks I've been babbling about. I've got a few more, hopefully these are halfway decent shots. First, the overall group that looks to me like MO blue lace agate, I assume, though some of the rocks in there are "different." A closer up of some of my faves: And here are a couple close ups: I have more but I'm going to test this post first and see how the sizes work out. Thanks!

Okay, looks like that was going swimmingly. So, first off here, we have top and bottom shots of that rock I posted in it's rough state a few weeks ago. Next, there are 3 views of a really cool looking and very big rock. Until seeing the photos and having this great monitor I hadn't noticed that the wider blue band is actually composed of tiny little bands. I've got some other pieces of very contrasting banded stuff in the works right now -- also pretty big. And thank you for looking!

WoW I am sooo jealous! Puppie those are too nice and to be able to find them only an hour from home. What a lucky find it was for you when you found that place!! Ohh how I wish I could come visit you for a rock hunting trip. I've found a few pieces up here, mostly when I'm looking for quartzy stuff that has some of the lacey patterns in it. Guess it's either a fluke or something the glaciers dragged back with them from somewhere else. It's pretty exciting to find stuff like that though. Thanks for sharing your pics Puppie, that stuff is way cool!

You guys are great -- "drooling towel" is classic -- LOL! Seriously, it's always fun to post things and thanks for the comments. I'm going to try to get some shots in natural light and see how I can do with the shine, which is much more spectacular than the pictures show. There's also other rock in this batch of other types/colors, but this is the stuff that seemed to group together as an actual "named rock."
Late last night while staring at it, I was thinking that I've been around it so much that I have no perspective about how others might see this rock. It's amazing to me that entire batches of an actual "named rock" are lying around for the taking, only an hour away, and that some of this polishes up into what certainly looks like gem quality agate.
Cher, I'm afraid more rockhound trips will have to wait till spring!

Is that sad or what? My daughter wants me to try and get on at Northwest Airlines so we can fly around cheap. LOL ... just for rockhunting trips. I told her I want to go to Puppies house in MO and she said I could go. Hahahaha, now if we could just convince my hubby that I need to make that trip it would be great but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Sounds like we need to be setting up a round-robin rockhounding trip...Az...AR...MO...MT...oh well...start at one end and go till ya run out of land....then go the other direction. Getting my 4 wheel drive truck in a few weeks...time to start planning... Wife and I do plan on heading back to AR in the spring...I wil post a notice when we have it set up just in case some of you can make it also...

We are leaving on the 18th for Great Falls MT....taking a bus up and getting my truck there... Have promised myself one day of nothing but rockhounding. No visiting..no kinfolks..no old friends...just me and the rocks....

Pho -- How bad does the driving figure to be at this time of the year? A bus trip there sounds sorta scary.

With luck the roads will all be ok and in good shape. They do a good job of keeping the roads open up there. All depends on the weather...if a snow storm comes in..we could be stranded in some little wide spot inthe road for a day or so....but I been watching the weather forcast and looks good so far... Will be only a 2 day ride on the bus...so not too bad.

Sheesh, don't login to the board for a couple days, and look what I've missed! Those are really great stones Puppie, and nicely shaped as well. Are you still doing some with vugs in them or have you gone for the rounded look?
They are all nice, but no question my favourite is "the brain" -- looked good in rough, even better polished up. Great job!

Cher...you will have to trave a long long way to find a prettier spot on earth than the Bitterroot Vally.... But then again..Montana is full of pretty places...and lots of creeks and rivers with lots and lots of pretty rocks..all waiting for some nice person with a rock tumbler to come along... I can take you to some places where you would never want to leave...spent 7 years in Montana and loved it there. Married a Montana girl and it is my second home.
