Introduce it! What’s it name? Attractive piece. Thanks. So new, it's not named. I got pretty excited, never seen colors quite like that around here. Edit: I take lousy photos. Some of the pieces have a lovely mix of pink and green. Second edit: She's calling it opal. Wouldn't have been my first thought but I don't know squat.

I wonder how the first sample got those brown swish marks.

It kind of looks Willow Creek-ish to me. Is it porcelain like?

That is definitely common opal. Abundant in Central Nevada. Have not seen any yet in Northern Nevada.

I love the Bruneau-like orbs in the second piece. With those pastel colors, that should make some killer cabs. I also like the slashes in the first piece.

The first one is fascinating, totally different from anything that can be found anywhere close to here. It looks like white chocolate with some cocoa stripes!

That is definitely common opal. Abundant in Central Nevada. Have not seen any yet in Northern Nevada. There's quite a bit of the precious variety of opal in northern NV -- thinking of Virgin Valley and some of the deposits in he Black Rock Desert area. Common's nice but precious is much better
I like the patterns and colors of this material. It should make some very nice cabs.

Problem with the precious opal from Nevada is that a lot of it is unstable and has to be kept in a container of water.
I like the common opal here in Nevada. Has a wider variety of colors and patterns and does not generally need stabilizing.

The lady I got this from had one tiny cab (~3/8") she had made from it that had a flash of iridescence in it. Is this often seen in your experience?
