just got these out today, most if not all are preformed, but i got some interesting results on a few pieces, here is a plateful of the better stones: check out the two pieces on the top: i was so hoping they wouldn't break in the process, for all those that don't see what i mean: (big fish, little fish swimmin' in the water..) anyway, here are some close ups of what i hope will turn into nice jewelry one day, like as soon as it warms up enough downstairs to drill holes.. now if that doesn't get you hopping on foot waiting for that Mex lace that llana just posted?? i let this batch go in 60/90 for 2 weeks, one week in 220, two weeks in 600 and two weeks in Aluminum Oxide polish. thanks for lookng! I'm drooling , and speechless, those are incredible!! Newbie question: how do you get them flat like that? are they in a slab before you tumble them? Could I get results like that?

i cheat, tweet , i have a saw to preform my stones before i tumble them. my primary end use for the finished stones is to use them in jewelry, so i saw them, tumble polish them, drill them and then incorporate them into necklaces and earrings, pins, etc. with "store bought" beads and findings. but thanks for the compliment! hey THANKS Sands! that's mexican lace/crazy lace and the banded stuff is some brazilian agate slices. both Red Tsunami and Stairway to Heaven came from those, the tumbled stuff were the offcuts and leftover pieces.
can't wait to see your slab, thanks again!

Darn, I had hope there for a little while! I'm thinking jewellry for mine too, but it has to survive my daughter's wear & tear - she's too rough on anything. I thought I'd wrap my pieces for a necklace centre piece or something. I'd love to be able to just find stones like that somewhere - right now I'm tumbling driveway gravel - yeah I'm hopeless, but I don't have anything to tumble but that. *hangs head low in shame*

Oh yeah! Now that's nice! What a classic job. Well done! I don't know what else to say. Splendid, dazzling, gorgeous, wonderful, beautiful... I can only hope that my mexican crazy-lace will be as nice. I don't have a saw thought. I usedb a hammer. The brazillian agate is something else too!

there is no shame in driveway gravel, tweet, take a look in here through some photos, some driveway rock turns out fairly spectacularly. besides, if you get good at driveway rock i'm sure you will somehow learn to aquire different kinds out there. remember, this is an addicition and before long you will go to great lengths to support your habit.

KD, those are beautiful! I just love the lace - don't even care if it has alot of color or not - those intricate lace patterns are just amazing, whether they be white, grey, pink, brown, tan, black, red, peach or any other color. And the fish, WOW! They are just wonderful! I am assuming you did not cut them, and they just came out that way. How cool is that! I can't wait to see what you do with them! Everything is just fabulous! Bunch of wonderful stones for some wonderful jewelry!
Tweetie, I will be going for some more MexLace one day next week, so if you would like some, let me know. It's $3.00/lb. I'll be glad get some for you. Have to go anyway because I misfigured how much I needed for everybody else that wanted some and didn't get enough the other day!

How does payment work? you can PM me if you want or reply back here - I'd like to know how these things work - I may have a market for driveway gravel!!!

My, my, my. There ya go again KD, making us all feel umworthy. Those are truely beautiful. Down right Yes, I must say, YUMMY! I got my trim saw back and went on a cutting spree (or should I say "spray". I was soaked!) this evening. I think I must have chewed up my blade by pushing the rocks too hard the first time. Or I'm just too impatient, it just seems too take sooo long! Great job!

I got a heavy duty vinyl apron for when I am grinding and it was the best $6.00 is ever spent. Got my from Dad's Rock Shop, but I'm sure most rock shops have them.
After you finish using your saw empty the tray or get the blade out of the water and run it until it is dry, then spray it with WD40. Keeps the blade from rusting and will last alot longer. BE and I used to go thru about 1 blade a month til we started doing this - haven't replaced a blade since and they cut like new.

llana, i did cut the fish, but not in that finished shape.. some of the softer material disappeared int the first grind, but it was looking so wierd and cool that i let it roll. hoping all the time that it would survive the rest.
don't know what i am going to do with the fish next..
any ideas?

When you put the two together, to me it looks like a man with his mouth open about to bite the fish!. I don't know what the size of them are, but I would do earrings ;D

You couldn't done better on the fish if you had tried! They are too cool!
any ideas?
Well, the first thing I thought of when I saw it was the poster with a bunch of fish the bigger one eating the smaller one, and on down the line. The caption "There's no such thing as a free lunch!" or something like that. I think I, being somewhat weird, would make a really neat plaque - beautiful wood with a nice finish, scalloped edges rather than just a square or rectangle shape, the fish in the middle with the caption, in small rocks at the bottom.
Either one of them would also make a fabulous necklace that fish lovers would go beserk over. You could wirewrap them and make an ocean looking swirl or something like that and put it on a chain or beaded necklace. Or on a choker, make a nice wire bail and hang them the same way you photographed them. Or hang them both facing the same way. Or hang them one both on a dangle with the smaller on top, or vice versa. Lots of possibilities! They are so unusual you could do just about anything with them and they would look cool.

Here's some earrings I fashioned from some pieces Tom sent me. I love the asymetrical look, but I did that whole 80's thing, unfortunately cookie
