I am very, very seriously thinking of leaving etsy. This latest bullshit with them forcing me out of stand alone paypal is juuuuuust about the last damn straw. If I didn't loath FB so much, I would have already left. But, if I shift everything to my own domain, then I need to market. Ugh. Forget FB for sales, Instagram is where you want to be. I have a friend in the rock club who derives 100% of his income from IG sales, no etsy or ebay stores. I have the framework in place to start doing some sales and MsAli offered to help me with the semantics if I decide to take it somewhere when (if) time permits. If I were you I would stay registered with etsy for now, in case their new policies are reversed later due to mass exodus, which I would expect. It's so interesting how quickly things change in the internet world. I remember years ago asking a niece and nephew if they used myspace- they laughed me out of the room. Seems you really need to pay attention to what is "hot" to sell online. Don't want to be the last seller of any given category to make the jump to the next big thing. Al

julieooly, sorry for the threadjack, let me reel this back in to your post. Consider your keywords when posting on etsy, or anywhere for that matter. Ultimately we all are only guessing the source of fossils we didn't collect, so perhaps gem-bone or fossil bone would be better words to use, avoiding the debatable source of the fossil. I bet that the items that aren't getting pulled were being described with more generic words.

That's pretty specific, yet they still exist. But, your idea about NOT being specific about the bone source is a great idea.

Yes it's really getting frustrating dealing with the nit-witery of the Technocrats. The term "technocrat" is quickly being proved to be an oxymoron for sure.
I've been having similar problems selling on FB recently. Had a listing for an American Optical Co. brand microscope rejected because it contained the word "optical" and the root word "scope". And had a post for a Diamond-Laser 3000 Bandsaw rejected for the word "laser" . I had to rewrite the posts eliminating such highly nefarious and offensive words. And added a foreword to the listings explaining why they now contain odd wording and sentence structuring.
I guess all so the members of FB's corporate idiocracy can pat each other on the back and virtue signal to each other about how they are not going to allow ANYONE to sell assault-microscopes or assault-bandsaws on their platform - NO, not on their watch! [sarc]

Perhaps you could list it as "Agatized "Moby" Marrow"? Larry C.

I sold an agate on etsy with full fortification pattern. Paypal refused the sale. I had to reword the title and then it was fine.

You are wasting your time arguing with idiots, and their numbers are increasing! Mark Twain said it best, " Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." And Frank Zappa said, "Hydrogen and stupidity are the two most abundant materials in the universe," and also, “There is more stupidity around than hydrogen and it has a longer shelf life.”

Vote, Vote, Vote and get your friends to VOTE. It's the only way possible to salvage California short of an earthquake or civil war. We are ready for either. I do vote, in every election for the last 44 years. The problem is a lack of qualified people running for office, and a dearth of intelligent people voting for those that are. It all started downhill with the Browns.... Yes it did! And now Jerry the youngest has moved into our rural area that he didn't screw up with his policies.

That said, I'd simply ask them how a piece of fossil bone, probably millions of years old, applies to the current endangered species lists they cite and why such an item that age is prohibited. Make them do a bit of work in explaining the rationale. It is prohibited because wildlife officers discovered that elephant ivory was being trafficked worldwide under the label of extinct species like the woolly mammoth. The wildlife community worked very hard to get these laws passed, because some species are literally being collected to extinction even within national parks. “A foolproof, instant, inexpensive testing system to tell the two ivories apart that will not damage the item has yet to be devised,” according to the Save the Elephants report. Someone's desire to own or sell ivory should not be more important than the survival of a species. We have plenty of other rocks we can work. National Geo can explain it all to you
