I try not to toot my own horn as a general rule but I'm proud as can be to have just reached my 2000th stone sold on Etsy.I remember it so well, I showed up on this forum wet behind the ears, two rotary tumbles under my belt, with lots of inspiration and advice provided here I jumped into making cabs with both feet and started accumulating them faster than I knew what to do with them. Truth is I had NO idea what to do with them or even with the hobby in general. When I took the Etsy plunge in middle of 2014 it was like ... ahhh ... this is amazing, people like what I'm making and they are effing BUYING THEM!! Holy cow! haha. Almost five years later what I am most extremely proud of is that of those 2000 cabochons sold, I've kept my quality as high as I can, and my customer service even higher, and I've never had a single review of less than five stars in 1087 reviews (on 1208 total sales) OK that's enough tooting

Wow. That's better than one cab per day. I think that's pretty amazing.

That is amazing but not really a surprise to me. You have some of the best materials around and do great things with them. Congrats Tommy.

Congratulations Tommy! Keep 'em coming!
A landmark number like that is a good point to assess wheel "mileage" costs. If you don't mind sharing that info - How many wheels (type, brand and grit) has it taken to produce 2k salable cabs?

A landmark number like that is a good point to assess wheel "mileage" costs. If you don't mind sharing that info - How many wheels (type, brand and grit) has it taken to produce 2k salable cabs? Thanks! it IS a great question but not one that I have an easy answer for. Between 2014 and now my style has changed drastically a several times. The first few years I was literally addicted to dopping and mashing the stone against the wheel with water flying everywhere. If a little pressure was good then a lot of pressure is fantastic right? During that period I was having to change out the lower Nova grits (140, 280, 600, 1200) quarterly and I spent over $2000 with RonsRocks until he turned asshole on me the very first time I needed his help (hey, were in the Vendor Reviews section right?). Anyway, when I transitioned from dopping to freehanding (beginning of 2016?) suddenly my wheels started lasting a LOT longer. Shortly after that (2017?) I began to experiment with an expando drum and SiC belts to do the workhorse grits complemented by almost dry Nova 280 and 600 mostly just to dry the stone and highlight any flat spots. By 2018 I had gotten rid of the Nova 140 all together and started using expando SiC 220, 320, 600, and 1000 full time while still hitting with an almost dry Nova 280 and 600 mostly just to dry the stone quick and highlight any flat spots. Consequently the last Nova's I bought were early 2018 and they are still in great shape although I just noticed that my 280 has started to delaminate Edit to add: I didn't mention the higher diamond wheels 3000, 14k, and 50K because I'm still on the originals wheels from 2014 ... actually I think I replaced the 3000 once.

Congrats, Tommy! You're a great guy, well deserved. Aww, thanks Stewart! Coming from you that's a heck of a complement. BTW, if I can hijack my own thread... I received the coolest and most beautifully constructed Inuvialuit magazine in the mail the other day. The Editor-in-Chief is some fellow named Stewart B. - you wouldn't happen to know the fellow would you? Tell him congratulations and that he's going a great job and the layout of the magazine is beautiful
