I would like to thank everyone for all the nice replies on my recent Mexican agate tumbles. As a reward I put all of them on two trays and took group shot photos. Still no plan for them. Pricing and selling individually would be a painful process. I like the close up photos better but this shows the scope of the project a little better. Chuck

The rocks are great but I really like your use of the kitty litter in your photos. Better looking than a plain white background (but does not detract from the main attraction) and must come in handy positioning/holding the rocks.

Drummond Island Rocks I would think you could price them all the same, 1 for X$, some discount for multiple. I would use one of the sectioned trays, it helps the shoppers keep them neat. Easy to add to fill in sold spots.

Good stuff, thank you for posting your photos!
I've been tumbling some of my faced nodules as well, since I don't have the equipment to polish a flat face. However, it seems like the established way to polish high end specimens is to face polish and keep the back natural. I'm wondering if most collectors consider it a significant detriment to the value of the piece to tumble polish high end specimens?

I'm wondering if most collectors consider it a significant detriment to the value of the piece to tumble polish high end specimens? Yeah collectors have a different mind set for sure. I tumble all of my rocks to suite my desired end result. If they sell they sell if they don't they don't. The backs on all of the Mexicans I wanted to have a natural look. They do not see stage one at all and only spend 24 hours in stage two. Mexican natural backs These are brazilian and Botswana halves where I tumbled the backs to perfection. These actually look much better and contain eyes and such on the backs after tumbling this way. Chuck

Yeah I agree with you. I'm an agate collector myself and I've purchased many specimens but its nice to to tumble some of the specimens to see the natural shape and polished look of the nodule. I've tumbled a bunch of condors as well and the backs look pretty gnarly. On the other hand, I've tumbled Chinese Fighting Blood Agates and their nodules tend to be very round and smooth.
I do stay away from tumble polishing any of the high end specimens, however, for fear of diminishing their value.

Awesome display, Chuck. But, the cabber and jeweler in me saw a couple that I would carefully slice for earring sets. Just gorgeous.....

Awesome display, Chuck. But, the cabber and jeweler in me saw a couple that I would carefully slice for earring sets. Just gorgeous..... Thanks. I cringed a little as I put them in ziploc containers and placed them inside a cabinet. They deserve better. lol Cabbing a few is always an option. Most are about the size of a U.S. quarter though so not much wiggle room. Chuck

Did you get your Loto working yet? Thanks Chuck! Funny you should ask because my first Loto only batch should be coming out today. I'll try to take some pictures for posting later.

What an awesome collection! I'm sure you'll find something cool to do with them. Now that you got them all done, don't you wish you had more? When I get a bunch of a nice material, I have to parcel it out into mixed batches over time. I guess the thought of running out of it bothers me. I still have some of these Mexican nodules left from a box I got two years ago.
