Sorry, there's no shine yet. LOL These are in 120/200 so it will be awhile but I'm pretty excited about the eye agate. Did some shaping with the dremel to bring out the eyes better and think it would make a nice pendant. It's about 1" x 1.25" in size and does have eyes on the back also, not as many as on the front though. The question is ... Try to drill it ...... Try to wrap it? Which do you think would work best? This one is a little smaller, about the size of a quarter, but I love the banding. Thought I'd try drilling this one through the darker color on top with the banding swirling down. Thanks for looking and opinions. Do you think these would work on a beaded necklace? Cher

I was thinking beading the first one, even before reading your last line... That would look so nice.. - of course you could wrap it too - (don't undecided people just drive you crazy!?)

Don't have a clue on your jewellery questions, just commenting on the stones. That second stone would be a real eye-catcher by itself, but it can't hold a candle to the eye-agate. That is just an unbelievably gorgeous stone. Whatever you do with it, it is going to look fantastic.

Nice rocks Cher...love them both. I think I'd drill a small hole in the top, insert a pin with a small cap. Those would look nice hanging from a multi colored ribbon...just my opinion.

Hey Cher, Love those Lakers! I simply must make up to the UP to look for some this summer. Would like to spend a week or so up on the Keewenau Peninsula. I think Minnesota is probably the best place to find the "Eyes" though. Don't think I'll be making it that far though. The simple drilled hole with a jump ring and leather cord always works well.

Those are both beautiful stones! I think you will do a nice job whatever you decide, but my preference is wrapping. Have fun, whatever you decide. I could see some nice beadwork accenting those stones.

Wow, they are both wonderful, but that first one....wow!
It might be just my opinion, but I think a drilled hole on top will show them off better. Your wire wrapping is great, but sometimes the stone is so darn pretty it doesn't need anything extra to distract from it's appearance.

Hi Rose, I am partial to the 2nd stone. The banding is superb!
Have you thought about a bell cap instead of wrapping or drilling?
One question I have is how did you get the 'potato' skin off the agate? Did you use a dremel for that too?
Simply spectacular stones!

both stones are spectacular, Cher! i am partial to drilling and post mounting (with epoxy) stones, but you always run the risk of ruining the stone!
your wrapping is pretty good, something simple to accent the beauty of the stones?
whatever you do, i got to agree with the group, it's gonna be great!

Both stones are very beautiful, can't wait to see them completed. I think your first thought of drilling a hole in the second rock would do the rock the best justice. Tami

WRAP WRAP WRAP those eyes! I thought about the drilling and had a horrible thought about the stone cracking! Awesome lakers- Oh and those eyes are worth a bit of money! I was checking out some on ebay and WOW they do get a bit for em!

Have you thought about a bell cap instead of wrapping or drilling? One question I have is how did you get the 'potato' skin off the agate? Did you use a dremel for that too? Me and bell caps? Hahahaha, I could glue myself to the ceiling easier than putting on those darn things. I want the least amount of cover on the stones as possible so bell caps (and beading) would not work. The "potato skin" of an agate can be hard but you don't necessarily want to remove it all. Most of it smoothes out in the coarse stage but there are generally some pits that you need to get rid of. If you look at the eye agate, the spot on the bottom of the stone is still part of the outer layer, it just wasn't very pitted. I never use my dremel on of the stones until they come out of the coarse (60/90) grit so I can see what I've got. The second stone I didn't do anything with, it was just a piece of an agate that I found on a gravel road. Thanks all for your thoughts on this, the darn thing is giving me nightmares. Stefan, I swear I drilled it a 100 times in my sleep last night and cracked it every time. I thought of the way you do that top drilling KD but being that I don't have the drill press, my drilling is not always perfectly straight. *sigh* This is going to be a toughie, so far I haven't been able to envision a way of wrapping it and not covering those eyes. Appreciate all your input, it'll be a few weeks in so I have some time to practice. I do have some gold-filled wire coming so it won't be done with the cheaper craft wire. Cher

Hey Cher,
Those are great!!! I love the one with the eyes ... that is my favorite!
I found some lakers while moving my rocks to my "new shop" ... and you definitely peaked my ambitions to try a few of them out!
Thank you,
John

Thanks John, ;D You must have an awful lot of rocks if you had lakers and didn't know it. What you going to do with them? Are they big enough to slab or tumblers?

I did'nt mean to give you night mares! I just didn't get a good feeling when you said drill- I'm not a wrapper but I invisioned a simple gold cage (bent to show the eyes!) then a rounded finish (to compliment the eyes). Please keep us updated!
