Question about Montana sapphires: while traveling in the west I planned the trip to get close to rockhound sites. I read everything I could about sapphire hunting in Montana and it seemed like the only places were the commercial operations. What's that about the creek in Phillipsburg?
I have seen tumbled Montana sapphires that look like yours only all polished up. They were beautiful and in pretty pastel colors like yours. A vendor at a rock show did them herself and gave me her recipe. It didn't work for me, but I started out with the usual mine run ebay stuff with matrix, etc., and now that I see your picture, I realize that is what she started out with. Is there a place where you can purchase stuff like you have?

Beautiful Chassrock!
Pup, Like you I have thrown in sapphires in with my emeralds. They are full of matrix and don't appear to be little round balls like Chassroc's.
I was just browsing ebay lastnight and have seen similar sapphires, on ebay at a reasonable price starting at $1 with no Reserve. I think it was something like $8 for shipping and they were shipped from thailand. (I did a search for "Rough gems")
Just a thought... How about throwing a few small rough diamonds or even diamond dust in the load? Would that help the sapphires along? I've seen some low grade diamond rough on ebay at resonable prices.

Pup, I'll have to scout around but I believe the other location is by the Missouri River around Helena, Try searching "YUGO" sapphires too. Alice, What is the Bird in your logo? csroc
