What kind of improvement are you loking for? The rocks look like they are coming along fine. as far as the pictures, they are great. I have a real problem with those pics that are huge being on dial up. It's nicer too if you don't have to scroll the page back and forth trying to look at a picture. You did just fine.

Great colors, great shapes! Sometimes the cracks don't go away completely. You may want to consider getting a Dremel to shape the cracks out before continuing 60/990. That's what I'm going to have to do with some lakers I have. It will be worth it, they are going to be gorgous when finished.

Thanks Ladys. So what is the best way to move on to stage 2 without contaminating the barrell. Most of them do NOT have cracks only some so I can leave those out ans use dremmel. Should I put filler in it because they are less then half full?
Thanks again

The only stage I don't run plastic pellets in is in the first coarse grit. After that, every step has pellets in with the stones, especially if you have a small load.

Momma-
So tell us what you did w/ these? How long at each stage etc.
You really look like you've got some keepers in that bunch. Did you buy them or find them?
One other thing I'm amazed with is that all the rocks are positioned exactly in both pictures....that must've taken some time.

They are coming along just fine Momma, make sure to clean the barrel thoroughly between stages.

Lookin' good, momma! Those are going to be really nice when finished.
when you are ready to go to another grit, clean the slurry off the rocks, then put them back in the barrel, add a teaspoon of Borax/ Ivory Snow/ Cascade, water (I use hot water), and put it back on the tumbler for a couple of hours. Then rinse the rocks and barrel, and do the same thing again. I usually washing mine for several hours, rinsing and changing the soap/water several times. And sometimes I forget and the rocks get washing for days! ;D

Thanks everyone. I just feel like they could look better than what they do now.
Gaetz- They have only been in stage 1 for 6 weeks. I bought most of them at the rock shop here in Montana. 3 or 4 I found on my mother in laws property like the 5th and 7th in top row. Than the 3rd and 4th under top row, so Im not sure if those are even anything. All I did was change the shirt color on the scanner. Never moved the rocks. Thats why they are all positioned exactilly the same.
You say to use Ivory Snow,Cascade and Hot water. I do not have any Cascade or Ivory snow, so can I use Dreft baby soap, with Borax and Hot water? All the rocks are all clean. the only thing that is not clean is the barrell. How would I go abouts to getting that supper clean so I do not contaminate the next stage?
Thanks again everyone

To clean the rocks I empty the barrel into a strainer- then run water through- then I rinse out the barrel- add water and some borax- oh and the rocks- run for a couple of hours- then rinse the rocks again- then I take a toothbrush to the barrel (2 or 3 times). Dry everything add next stage grit and rocks and water and your ggod to go! I never add pellets for the first grind- but from 120/220 on I'm using pellets!
