I like to watch Matty Mathison's cooking videos. First saw him on the Vice Channel (Munchies Test Kitchen) a few years ago making a Thanksgiving meal.

My wife is Swiss. We eat a lot of cheese fondue in the winter.

My favorite lunch is an onion sandwich. Bread, a slice of sweet onion, mustard, salt and peeper. Mmmm

Yes it's a real thing. You're in SC and have never had an onion sandwich? Someone's been hidin' the good stuff from you.

Sweet and juicy. The pepper is the key.
I like a smoked peppercorn, freshly ground. Yum!

ONION SANDWICH. You gotta be kidding! Since I figured Starguy was pulling our leg, I googled onion sandwich. Apparently it is well known—-even famous! Even in a James Beard cookbook! Lots of variation. Going to try it today with white onion; don’t have a sweet onion. Yet.

We just shared a half sandwich using white onion, Grey Poupon mustard, a little salt and freshly ground pepper.
Any suggestions for different mustard etc?
It was pretty good.

Oh, yeah, good dark rye! Why am I getting hungry again - I just had lunch? Any suggestions for different mustard etc? I prefer the little jars of Maille brand that consists of the whole plump mustard seeds rather than a smooth spread - could eat that all by itself. I do love sweet onion on a sandwich, though I think I'd crumble some good Cheddar on top and stick it under the broiler for a couple of minutes to melt on mine. I can't eat black pepper (sensitive mouth lining means I'm sure to get a mouth sore if I do), so just salt won't do for me.

Not food, but a recipe I thought others could use. Lotion Bars A recipe that can be customized. Materials needed for 12 bars: Deep cupcake pan(s). Either one with 12 sections or two with six. Heavy weight cupcake papers. A metal, double boiler or a couple pots that fit inside of each other. For this recipe, the one for ingredients must by 3 quart size. A ladle. I have one that is ¾ cup, which works great. Tins for finished bars. Ingredients for 12 bars 2” thick: 1 Cup Shae Butter. Coco Butter may also be used. 1 Cup Beeswax. 3/4 Cup Oil. Coconut Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Almond Oil, Baby Oil, or Massage Oil all work well. Note that most massage oils contain specific scent and therapeutic oils. Total of ½ Cup Essential Oils. Choice depends on desired scent and any specific needs. Many oils can be combined. Recommend researching oils. Then combining a small amount of your choices to ensure the scent is pleasing. Optional. Dried herbs. Adding some dried herbs adds exfoliating properties to the bars. Also, a good choice if you grow specific herbs you want included. Increase the base oil by 2 TBS for each TBS of crushed dried herbs used. Method: Bring water to a boil. Add the Shae Butter, Beeswax and base oil. Stir until all are dissolved. Add Essential oils. Stir to combine. Add any dried herbs. Stir to combine. Ensure that the mixture never starts to bubble. If this happens, reduce heat. Place cupcake papers in cupcake tin(s). Ladle about 2.25” of mixture into the cupcake papers. Allow to harden. Best to not force hardening by placing in cold area. When hard, place each bar into a tin or plastic baggie. Thy can be removed from the cupcake papers. These can be stored in a cool, dark location for up to a year. That was the basic recipe. Here is what I plan on doing. Using Shae Butter, Palo Santo CBD Massage Oil, Beeswax with Propolis from knave. Adding some Frankincense, Patchouli and Calendula oils. Adding crushed CBG flowers/buds. This is a custom blend that should work for both pain relief and dry, cracked skin/fingernails. Cost of ingredients is about $30.00 for 12 bars. My cost was higher, due to the use of the Palo Santo CBD oil and CBG Flowers/Buds. Considering similar bars retail for about $7.00-$9.00 each ($84.00 to $108.00 for 12), this is a great way to make your own. I have used the basic recipe in the past with great results. Let me know if you have any questions.
