jasperfanatic another consideration is that when you re-etch damascus blades you also etch the sharp edge and will need to resharpen, or if you can carefully apply clear or colored nail polish ti the surfaces you don't want etched it will act as a resist.

Looks great, awesome job! If you don't mind sharing, where did you get the blank, and is it truly Damascus (or even layered)? I bought a smaller Damascus fold out knife for this very same thing for when I'm done experimenting with some old Buck knives, but discovered the Damascus look was only etched on the surface - any grinding/sanding and it's just a single piece of steel. In the little bit of digging around on the Internet I did it seems like that is common problem, but couldn't really determine a trusted source for real layered or Damascus blanks. www.Bladeforums.com is an excellent place to buy American made layered modern "Damascus" steel billets. You will have to shape your own knives, but that the adventure. Edit: fixed it; thanks rockpickerforever

It is truly a work of art. What are you going to use it for?

It is truly a work of art. What are you going to use it for? I honestly don't know! I just wanted to make it, mission accomplished I guess! I make quite a bit of jewelry and want to have some more masculine type items if I ever do a show again, I suppose is my reasoning to myself. But I highly doubt I could part with this knife actually 😉
