They have a very slender “kerf” so the blade bends easily. I am happy with how it cuts. Especially for $3 per blade. Leaves a very smooth edge if you don’t rush the cut. Thanks Knave! I really appreciate your taking the time to answer my questions. I got this whole set up in August but took me a while to get the oil delivery working well enough to take care of the blade. I’ve gotten tons of use out of the cabber, just want to shift use from mostly thunder eggs to some jewelry.

The blade doesn’t get bent. It just moves a little with pressure. I don’t know how to say it. It easily deflects with horizontal pressure (you can push it to the side, but when pressure is released it returns to center)

I’m going to pick up the KN blade to have as backup; maybe a couple at that price. Now I just need to decide on the brand of wheel. Thanks

If I may chime in, I’m interested in the difference between a $200 -$250 sintered diamond wheel and the $80 - $100 Kingsley North wheels? If I may impose.... Maybe this was answered above - I skimmed the thread quickly. Sintered hard wheels have much thicker diamond coatings than the cheaper wheels, about 1/8-inch. And the diamond is heat-sintered into the metal, not just plated. That's what accounts for the difference in price. Sintered wheels last many times longer that simple plated wheels and IMO they're definitely worth the investment. They will last for years even with fairly heavy use. I do a lot of cabbing and I've been running heavy steel-core 60 and 220 grit sintered wheels on my Genie for over 2 years and they cut like new. No problems with the Genie's bearings either so far. I know a cutter who does far more heavy-duty cutting on a Genie with sintered wheels than I do and he's never had a bearing problem.

No, it wasn’t answered directly in this way, I appreciate it.

Just my 2 cents worth, I have been using a sintered 80 grit wheel on a Genie heavily for 6 years and it doesn't seem to be even half way through the grit yet. I highly recommend spending the extra $ if you want a wheel that would last for years even with heavy use.

With talk of wheels and some thought given to belts in this thread: I’m curious if I should switch to diamond belts. My SiC ones seem to have worn out quickly this time. New at this, I’ve only ever bought two “sets” of SiC, I.e. 2X 100-1000 grit. What are the pros and cons of diamond belts? Also which grits do y’all tend to have? Lastly, who has the best prices? Are the Chinese ones on eBay legit or should I stick to KN OR TRS? What about Johnson Bros? Theirs are 34.95. Anyone else going broke just thinking about it? Lol. I purchased a cabbing machine and saw just this Aug (color me hooked). the cabber has an expanding wheel, diamond wheel and on the end I switch out spin heads. Thanks in advance and let’s hear it!

JR8675309Did your friend grind his rock on a dry wheel? That is the surest way to ruin a diamond wheel in a hurry. Those things last a very long time when water cooled.

I will not be using the cheapo blades in the future. They don’t hold up to the harder or bigger rocks. I can’t really recommend them.
