In the mid 70s, I was rebuilding a 1964 Corvair that my dad had picked up for me cheap ($75, needed work). We had to pick up a 2-spd auto trans from the junkyard for it.
While there, one of the workers asked if we'd take a kitten. I guess someone had taken them from the mom at birth and planned on dispatching them. It was long ago, so don't remember all the details, how many, etc.
But we brought just one home, a short-haired Tortie. She was just a tiny thing, not more than a day old. Yes, we had to bottle feed her. So we played the name game.
We started calling her just kitty, which shortly morphed to Mandy. Kitty, Miss Kitty, Gunsmoke, Amanda Blake = Mandy. She took the bottle great, and turned into a healthy young cat. Unfortunately, before she was old enough to be spayed (six months old, at that time), the neighbors two doors down the street that did not like cats, or kids, had a party. People were parking their cars several houses away, and we think she followed someone to the party house. They either made her disappear, or she went home with someone.

I had a tortie named Jasmine. Sweetest animal ever. I miss her.
Cat had many names, too. George almost stuck, but in the end he is just Cat and it suits him. Being a street cat for so long, I can only imagine how many names he had as he settled into one place after another. He ended here to retire. I love that cat.
Sid is Sid because she's so vicious... still. I don't love her as much.

Some photos from a walk yesterday. It was a beautiful day for a walk. Lots of geese and ducks. Only saw two other people at first. As I was walking back to car a DNR crew came to start cleaning up the roots shown in the first photo. I also hid some painted rocks.

No picture, but I have Gene out today for a little grinding.
I'll be doing some preforming, too. Gotta get my contest cab going.

Here's another reptile I had three encounters with yesterday afternoon. First couple of times he was around the rock crates behind my shed. Was able to get photos when I spotted him sunning on the bottom step of the deck next to the goldfish pond. This is a male Large Head Skink. When they're small, they usually have a blue tail and have stripes and will eat mostly insects. When they get large like this one (12" or so) they will prey on small rodents, amphibians and other lizards to include small lizards of there own species. Need to get him out of the yard and somewhere else so he doesn't eat all of the green anoles.

Photos from the yard of someone who lives across the street from a large grocery store. They normally pick up a large garbage can of trash weekly. Now they are doing it every other day. They always wear their own PPE to pick up the PPE that grocery customers are throwing on the ground when they leave the store. Their house is located down a fairly long driveways from the main road. There are large trees between the hpuse and main road. They called the store manager and complained. The manager said he had more garbage cans on order and apologized. They asked him to provide them with PPE to pick up the garbage his customers were throwing on the ground. He did not agree to do so.

Most of the garbage is gloves and face masks.

Found my first snake of the year the other day. At least I didn't stumble across a mess of them like this...

They are practically dinosaurs!

It's amazing how a quick trip outside to feel the breeze, watch the birds and soak in the sun can change the mood. Luckily, we've had beautiful Spring weather during all this. My yard has never been in better shape. Those eyes are amazing!

Some counties in my state have burning bans on now. But this pile was grandfathered in apparently because it lit just fine.
