This is some great info oldschoolrocker. Thank you so much. I'm going to order those bits. For now I am sticking exclusively with "water washed" stones from Lake Superior. My priority in picking those stones is not so much the type of stone (but I mostly stick with the harder ones like basalt, quart & agate). My priority is the shape of the stone. I try to only pick ones that are already fairly symmetrical, so I'm not going to be doing a lot of cutting. Another member sent me a really good article on working with those stones. You'd think that because those stones have already been polished by nature, that you wouldn't have to put as much effort into getting a finished product, but apparently the opposite is true. I did not realize that those stones develop a "rind" on the outside due to all the abuse they have taken. That rind needs to be removed before they will accept a proper polish. So I am going to order some extra course grit and I'm also going to need to spend some extra time with them with the dremel. Thanks for sharing some of your tools and methods. Oh yeah, I especially like your idea of making that line with the sharpie. I am going to start doing that. Keep up the great work!
