I'm crying with you. Oh well, I'll just have to find a rebound cab...

Oooooh, so sad. Maybe she can be mended. I think I may try and save the bigger piece- it will just have to be a smaller cab. I'll lose some of the purple, though, and that's what I like about Tiffany Stone. I'm still kicking myself for not purchasing more at the rock show.

I've had three cabs fracture when stored in Riker boxes. I found a small piece of material in my pocket recently and didn't know where it came from. I finally found a Tahoma preform with a piece missing from the bottom. A little grinding and it won't matter. Considering all the times that I have had a cab go flying off a wheel without damage, I'm way ahead. My cabbing area is on dirt so dropping one isn't an issue. I did drop one on concrete going in the house and it didn't survive.
I spend a lot of time studying edges looking for fractures and I still get some surprises.

Only it didn't hit the concrete- it only fell about two feet into a big lick tub full of agates. Like I said, I think I'll try and save the larger piece, it's nice material.

At my very first show, a customer picked up a Tiffany cab to purchase & dropped it 4 inches onto a velvet cloth. It broke. They were about to hand me $50 for it!
I eventually glued it back together, touched it up, wrapped it & sold it about 4 or 5 years later. Lynn

I was close to finishing the shaping, but it still would have to run through the rotary...

Depending on the break, it may be possible to glue it back together, finish sanding it & have no evidence of the break. Lynn

At the same time as gluing back together, You might also want to epoxy it to a backer slab (flat piece of glass or stone), as is commonly done with things like opals and turquoise doublets to add extra strength.

Ouch that sucks. You need to invest in a rubber flooring mat and keep those evil agates away.

One of the first ones I domed with dremel was basically ready for lot o and while I was hand sanding it it slipped out of my hand and broke in half. Realized then just how slippery those little bugars can be. At least you can salvage the bigger piece If unable to mend it.

Tiffany broke up with me at lunch. This one was going to be nice... Tiffany or Amy? Amythest Sage? Never seen Tiffany with dendrites before.

Yeah, it is "Tiffany" (bertrandite opal fluorite). Somewhere, I still have some with dendrites and similar coloring.
