it had it's ups and downs, the two big upsides were all the rocks and the paycheck, the downsides were the shocks and the having to move to keep getting the paycheck. But it is nice to be able to say I walked from Cotulla Texas to Corpus Christi and from Corpus to Mathis TX. And it is good to have rocks and a laugh about former boss trying to mock me about "interesting rocks". yes they are interesting, far more interesting then him and his pipeline.

Nice collection of sites. It is dated, however, and quite a few of the sites are no longer accessible - in some cases have been off-limits to collecting for a half century. Handy compact digital format to access when driving cross-country just to know what may be around, but definitely consult an up-to-date guidebook, local BLM/FS office, etc. before deciding to go to some of the listed locations.

Yes it was just a web find and it is old. If there is an updated version somewhere that would be better.

This is a valid point I will edit the OP

well obviously not, i wouldn't be able to see this website if i had my thinkin' end that far up my stinkin' end and swol up that big. I was a lowly ground hand, less valuable to the company than the ground contact I carried. They ended up firing me once they found out i didn't have enough felonies

I know some of the listings in this are very obscure. For Cloud County in Kansas it lists Old River Bend area for some agate, petrified wood, etc... I knew the river had changed course in 1905 so was able to find a plat map from 1920 that had an area labeled that way. The area has been overgrown and pickings are very slim.

Now, THAT is dated!! Same for my county. “Gravel pit 5 miles east of Rice Lake. Huh?

Yeah it has ~66 of the 254 counties in Texas. I am curious how the Falcons guide has aged.

It’s a great idea. Can’t imagine the effort it would take to put something together. Too bad it is outdated.

The "What a great feeling it is to capture rocks in the wild, lol. Plus the benefits of being out in the fresh air and sunshine. " . . . is more than worth it even if you find nothing but Leaverites on the trip. Come-on, admit it. even the Leaverites are cute!
