Many thanks, vitzitziltecpatl I'll email them tonight, I was going to call, but think I'll email first to find out a good time. That rough does have some flash, and ain't bad for having been picked thru. Was he pricing by the chunk, or just had a bin price? I'll let you know what I hear. Thanks again, and for the photos. Go to FB and look up: Gene McDevitt He’s a Koroit Opal miner from the US. He openly posts pics, videos, and such from his mine all the time. Quite interesting. He does sell some on eBay, but it’s all lower grade junky stuff. I think he goes to the shows and sells his stuff by the barrel/drum full. Wouldnt hurt to contact him

When I first joined this forum, pictures of beautiful Koroit cabs were being posted. I got the bug and ordered a parcel from Gene. For what was paid, I expected some value, not the motherload but since he picked the parcel something to work with. What I got was experience and nothing very good as a result. I believe he refunded my money. I am reluctant to take another chance.

McDevitt's also a jerk. I ordered an expensive parcel from him but after a few days he emailed that he'd decided not to sell it. OK. But he did it in such a snarky, arrogant way he's gone permanently onto my "do not buy from" list.

Wow. When I first saw that photo I thought the cab was larger, but then I saw the scale of the fingerprints.
I had started looking for places to cut "smaller, higher value" clean stones from it. Didn't matter. There's nowhere on there I'd want to saw through.
That's a great piece of boulder.

Hi, all. I'm not having much luck with opal miners lately, lol. Wrote Rod well over a week ago, but nada. And I've been buying rough from Gene in the past, but I haven't heard back after our last exchange before I started this thread. I know there is still opal in the ground, but it seems the miners are loath to let it go Just leavings mostly. Oh, well, I'll keep hoping for an email back, or a new source. Jet...it you are out there....

That's a beautiful piece, Knave. That's the quality I used to get in the past, but it has gone way down hill. Tony

Heard from Rod, and he's going to work with me on a parcel. I'll let you know how it works out. Many thank for the responses to this thread! T

Won’t buy anymore like that off eBay from him. Let me see if I can pull up some folks on Instagram that sell Boulder (it’s super nice and not at all cheap).

Yeah, I'll also be looking forward to hearing how it turns out. Hope it's good enough to at least take the edge off that opal jones you have going... .

stardiamond - That is a nice "pattern stone" for the buyers who only care about that aspect. Priced like an cab of most other types of rough we might cut. That's all anyone can do with those, but the right person will buy that one someday. Probably would be an easier sell in person.
Here's one from 2014.
Did sell, but took a while.

Love the pattern though. A little pin fire would have jazzed it up nicely.
