Here’s a nice star rose quartz I recently acquired. It’s quite large at 1 5/8” diameter. It has two very clear stars on it. The photo doesn’t do it justice. It’s also a pretty decent photo of my sock.

knave You would be surprised how many polished star rose quartz chunks I have found. I always have a small flashlight with me. If I find polished rose quartz in rock shops, I check them for stars. Madagascar is a big source but I’ve found stars from Brazil and from South Dakota too. I love star anything. It’s such an unusual quality in minerals. The one in the photo is from Brazil.

Nice. I personally find rose quartz stars almost impossible to photograph (the contraluz stars are easier). Video does a better job of showing stars for me, though I never got the hang of producing a video with a reasonable file size without spending a lot of time using an editor.

The moral of the story is “always carry a flashlight when you visit rock shops”. Star rose quartz is out there in abundance. I’ve been pleased showing rock shop owners what they have. Only one so far has said I knew what I was looking for. In the near future I should receive 5 Kg, or around 11 pounds of these spheres. I’ll post photos when I get them. I appreciate everyone taking a look. Star anything is awesome in my book. MsAli . The sock is just a bonus. I wish I was a better photographer. This rock is cool. @rocks2dust. I’ll try to make a short video.

I swear I heard once star rose quartz is found in Wisconsin too. I might have to investigate that someday

That’s beautiful. I wasn’t aware of all the star possibilities.

The Hogg Mine at LaGrange, GA is a well-known source for asteriated rose quartz. I have some lovely rough pieces from there.
I've also found a fair number of tumbled rose quartzes that display asterism, some very nice ones. But I'm getting old and lazy and keep putting off locating the optic axes to orient them. Easy job but other projects seem to take priority. One of these days...if the Kung Flu doesn't get me.

Have to bump it up the list now.

I swear I heard once star rose quartz is found in Wisconsin too. Yeah, I recall someone saying that that, too. Searched for a post here and on a couple of other forums, but no results. Maybe from one of the deposits along the Baraboo River?
