I spotted a similar one in a historic BC gold creek. I was hoping for gold, but no such luck. I got completely soaked in freezing water trying to retrieve it. Good from far and far from good. Then I also wondered about meteorite, because it kinda looked molten, but was not magnetic and my metal detector didn't detect it. I put it on a shelf for a number of years and it got dull and brown. Now that I know more, it is a pyrite nodule. The outside did look a little like gold. It has an intriguing metallic luster and is a pretty rock even if it's just pyrite. Same here re meteorite -- neither magnets nor my metal detector like it, and my understanding is that meteorites always have some iron. I'm just happy it's not some sort of industrial waste. A friend brought me 100 pounds of this "really cool green rock" that he found in a ditch. His cool green rock is green slag glass -- full of holes.

That stuff is something is full of arsenic. Hope he wore a mask when cutting it! I've seen where eBay listings get pulled stating "Item no longer available"...if this gets pulled stating "Seller no longer available", we'll know he wasn't as careful as he should have been. (Just sayin')

(Just sayin') Or if you get one of those "seller is away until XXX date" messages you know he is in the hospital after poisoning himself. I don't know if arsenic in rocks is similar to arsenic the poison, but I do know that stuff is some kind of arsenic. Might as well cut up some asbestos shingles and sell them on Ebay.

Green slag glass is pretty! While in Mt. Ida, Arkansas, we bought green slag glass to bring back for several friends who asked for it. I happily handed my find to them. They noted the holes. I was pleased they discovered the special characteristic. Hmmm, they had a different opinion.
They were not amused. No imagination. Live and learn. Ungrateful wretches!! LOL

LOL He calls it a "rare metallic material from cobalt," which I guess is his way of saying nickel arsenide (NiAs) -- half nickel, half arsenic.

I think it is pyrite. Pyrite has a sulfur smell when heated. It's iron and sulfur. I read an article an it said arsenic ores smells like garlic. It looks just pyrite. Anyone else ever hear ofa garlic smell, I never heard of this.
