I think there are some other forum members in the UK? Maybe one of them will see this and volunteer for testing. Pretty dice! i'd be over the moon, especially because that would mean i'd be able to find the materials used (if successful) more easily around here. I absolutely appreciate any and all help and advice. Hey saphira I wanted to ask how your experiment went ? I am also looking into this because my hands cant take the sanding anymore !!!

saphira, I am in the exact same boat as you. I make doubling cubes (big dice) for backgammon. I cast the resin in a long square mold, cut them to rough size, rough sand for final shape/size, engrave numbers on a small CNC, then hand sand/polish. It's killing my hands and time. I have been on the tumbling journey for a few months now. I have experimented with several different tumbling medias and polishes, and even called a few companies that deal with professional/industrial tumbling supply. They gave me some good advice, but suggested i buy $1400 of their products to achieve results. I get it, but that's not in my hobby budget. I'm still not at a final solution, but I'd be glad to share my findings with you. I use a few of the basic rotary tumblers from Harbor Freight ($60) (though i am building my own larger tumbler to handle larger batches). I like wet tumbling with the green resin tumbling media from harbor freight for smoothing out edges and corners. I use hardwood media (4mm cubes, eBay) and Crushed Walnut shells (Harbor Freight $25) mixed with different levels of car polish (fast cut, medium cut, and fine polish). Each stage takes 2-3 days, which is much longer than hand sanding, but I toss them in and go on my merry way. Saves my hands and is a much more uniform finish. Still not 100% glass finish, but my clock and hands thank me. Will share more as i learn more.

Hello, I am the owner of the bowlerite shack. None of the bowlerite shown in this photo collage was tumbled, by myself or the owner of Superior Agates who is a friend of mine. Using our photos to mis-identify how our cabs were made is also very irritating to say the least, especially when you are attributing it to someone else's work, and using our photos without permission, when my business name is clearly on the photos, and the same with Superior Agates pieces. Check with Chuck(Drummond Island Rocks). I believe he polishes bowlerite in a Lot-O vibe. The Lot-O may be your best way. [Admin Edit - photo removed]

Hi, welcome to RTH - nothing like making a positive business impression by coming in guns blazing in the direction of one of our (the?) most helpful, respected, and trusted members we have on the forum. My observations are - as you pointed out - because most of the individual photos in the photo collage retained their origin watermarks, it's pretty obvious that no attempt was made to attribute it to someone else's work - that doesn't even make sense if you think about it. To me it came across as a broad approach post - "here are some beautiful polished pieces of bowling balls - also check with Chuck..." etc. We apologize for the perceived mis-use of your photos and the original photo was removed by the member who posted it, and from the subsequently quoted posts by me. No harm was intended and again, if you think about it a lot more lapidary minded people now know about you and your website, so you're welcome - first impressions are important

Hello! I don't do anything with rocks, but I found this thread while googling. I also make dice, and a recent post in a fb group has piqued my interest in a vibratory tumbler for my dice as well. The person who posted uses hardwood media, and another member is doing more tumbling tests currently! The Facebook group is called 'Dice Making Discoveries' for anyone who wants to join who hasn't already. I know the rest of us would love more info on using a tumbler to polish dice, and there may be new info thats useful to you as well! Anyway, I'll probably keep an eye on the posts in the fb group and update with any definitive conclusions that have been made (with proper credit of course.) ETA: currently, there are users who have had success using a vibratory tumbler with cube shaped hardwood media and plastic polish, and don't have any issues keeping the sharp edge on their dice! Here's the link, idk if you can view without joining tho: m.facebook.com/groups/2266404406927098?view=permalink&id=2873960572838142 ETA 2 electric boogaloo: I found the thread that a lovely dice goblin has started with his experiments, if anyone wanted to take a look as he updates! m.facebook.com/groups/2266404406927098?view=permalink&id=2873759656191567

Eric.....Most everything you mention is correct. However, the the photo owner seems to have been most upset with the misrepresentation of the subject matter (objects) creation or processing (being tumbled)......Also, even though the photo(s) include watermarks, if the web site it originates from includes a disclaimer or user authorization in it's content statement, it's only there to serve notice requesting to be respectful.
There are hundreds of thousands and thousands of folks on the web who distribute their photo's with "copyright" infringement notices.....none of which are legally binding once they are displayed in/on within a public domain, just like you have eluded to......But misrepresentation can be challenged....if one cares to go to that extreme.......lol
On the positive side......RTH just got more positive vibes from this.....just like free advertisement.......all advertisement is positive, good or bad as it may be.....a confirmation this web-site is viewed by many everywhere and all the time.......lol
When I and few other buddies had our website, we dealt with this all of the time.......we chalked-it-up to +++++ influence and volume.......lol

I purposely decided not to address the misrepresentation part of his claim since nowhere in Jim's post did he claim anything in the photo he shared was tumbled, negating any claim of misrepresentation. And Jim actually named the person to contact about tumbling the material, which obviously did not match anything in the photo.
I can post a thread about tumbling concrete and add a picture of a puppy below it... Anyone who assumes the photo is of a concrete puppy has only themselves to blame!

Well, my only intent is to expand the use of a tumbler and improve tumbling processes. And that was my only intention Mr. thebowleriteshack. Stick around on this forum and you might pick up some helpful ideas. Many members here polish cabs of various materials in tumblers. Some of the polishes can challenge those created on buffing and polishing wheels. I did do some quick research. Many modern bowling balls are made out of polyurethane. The liner of a factory Vibrasonic vibe is made out of a soft urethane brew meaning it is seriously abrasion resistant being used as an abrasion resistant liner. But the liner does take on different finishes. One time silicon carbide impregnated ceramic media was used and the was a lot of blue particles in the batch. Meaning the aggressive ceramic media abraded the blue urethane. Not a good idea to use this type of ceramic in a plastic vibe hopper. But it proves plastic can be abraded and semi-polished but shaping it would be a challenge. By the same token, the surface of the urethane liner takes on a matte polish after running SiC 500-AO 220-AO polish. Using the right media and abrasives may make a fine polish on many types of plastics.
