I have had this piece setting around staring at me for awhile now. I tried unsuccessfully cutting a slab off this puppy but it’s bigger then my saw this was the only piece I could cut deep enough then I had to use a chisel to knock it off This is the rough piece It still has a few rough spots that need some touch up that I will smooth out, it’s going to be left like this just a polished stone. I am pretty pleased with this stuff I have only ran across all the wheels and still needs to be polished after. I bought this on ebay the seller called it spider web jasper but I bought a set of specific gravity scales and have been testing everything. This came up as varisite not jasper the rough has everything you could ask for green, red, white and blue

Originally I was looking for a nice chunk of turquoise with some nice matrix mix it but when I saw this I was like this what I am looking for. It’s a bolder just over 7.4 pounds give or take an once Sold Wrap it up it’s mine

Thank you I can’t wait to get some slabs cut off this there’s a sweet double red orb side by side that I want to make a nice cab out of There’s also some other really nice patterns all over this thing it also has nice inclusions I guess would be the proper term of red, blue and white opal to some are on the larger side the reds and blues the white is a bit smaller.

The other thing is I can’t get over how solid this stuff is it’s nowhere as soft as I was expecting it to be after seeing the opal

Time to fire up the grill and throw a brontosaurus rib, some burgers, and a steak for the flat lap Will they stay dull looking or have color? To soon to tell

I hope I did. I stopped working that bone because the first piece blew me away it’s a beautiful spider web turquoise blue, then I grabbed another piece I just about peed myself another spider web with blue & black haven’t finished the second one yet!! I looked up blue Dino didn’t find much thinking as I done the first one I asked myself what are the chances this could be Dino bone that has turquoise? Nope don’t think it’s bone any more started thumbing through my new book Turquoise mines, minerals and wearable art I’ll be damed came up with a couple pictures very close to it only 1 pic in book and 1 online from The then Mary Louise lode mining claim 1973. She Sold it later that year to lander blue turquoise company also referred to as a hat mine because it only gave up 98 pounds two buckets full. “Exquisite in its dark blue color with dark matrix” Once I finish all these pieces I’ll post them. The first two have a red matrix on them (hemitite) but under that nice blue a touch of white

When you grind hematite the water turns red. As I have only read and been told I never worked with any myself

Absolutely correct, the streak is in fact red to dark red. The stuff I’ve seen polishes silvery black.

I've had a wonky slab of that (bottom pic) ... ....sitting out on the table on my patio for longer than I care to remember. Was hoping that seeing it all the time would inspire me to do some rock work. Hasn't worked so far... My understanding is that it is Spiderweb Rhyolite. Not really a Jasper.

I couldn’t find anything online even close to jasper or varisite nothing on rhyolite either Then I found the Himalayas mine in Nevada and was the only thing I could find on it and in there listing it does say that the red coloring is the rarest they didn’t have any pictures of the red either

Big time glare can’t see So in the right side opposite of your thumb are those small white spots? And are they possibly white opal as mine has

That’s a nice little patten just over from your thumb four reddish to brown pyramids and the spider webbing is also following suit. Something the size of a belt buckle would be just about right
