Coming completely out of left field... What if they were some kind of seed pod? A lot of seed pods have a "husk" that would probably withstand the digestive track...like they do with birds nowadays. That would explain the small(ish) round structures... Just a thought...with probably not enough coffee ingested yet this morning...but no seed pods! LOL Jason, that is totally reasonable. However, I notice their structure is tubular like a stem, and they sometimes traverse the entire coprolite. Where's our plant guy? jamesp Final guess: Qantassaurus Quinoa

Maybe the digestive juices caused ingested stems to 'rot' or digest in the same pattern ? Could this be a plant stem that has a sort of star shape in it ? This one and others seem to have shrinkage gap filed with chalcedony. It makes sense that whatever he ingested would shrink due to digestive juices...guessing you guys have discussed shrinkage before. Or consider a fresh steaming moose turd sitting out in the sun drying out. It is likely it will shrink as it dries out perhaps leaving cracks within. it is likely that the stems he devoured may shrink and leave open cracks within. Check out "Texas shrink wood" for a likely example of organics shrinking and cracks filling:

Thank you, Rick, for that article. I'm thinking the mystery structures could have come from some kind of horsetail with pith inside the exterior walls. I don't know, but so far this hypothesis looks reasonable.

TURD TUESDAY Fresh off the saw this morning. It gives me a boyish satisfaction to cut one open to reveal what has been entombed for around 146 million years. Makes an old man feel young again.

My brain seems to be wired (wrong some would say! LOL) for seeing spots for cabochons when I see a slab or cut rock. This one looks to me like it would produce a bunch of fantastic cabs!!

I noticed that also. The black in this one is a more rare color so I'm leaning towards keeping it this way as a specimen.

Is it possible to identify the critter who laid the turd? Are there obvious indicators? Thanks.
