Took this photo for fun. Makes tumbled dyed crackle quartz very dramatic lol... This is an awesome picture. Love it!

Photo #264This dinosaur bone was a real challenge, it did not want to hold a polish. I had to vibe it for a few weeks in #500 Aluminum Oxide before performing a polish run. In order to see the detail I had to clobber it with a camera flash for the photo (which washes out the colors). Alternate views below: Someone asked me what my creative process is for the photos...am I supposed to have one? I just get a pilie of rocks and try and figue out what looks nice...

lordsorril your cat cracks me up in these pictures. You don't need a process if you have "the knack".

Both of them like to climb on me whenever I sit down and then they fall asleep...so I am constantly covered in scratches.

Photo #265Some more local Massachusetts stones I collected in the woods: looks like I lost the yellow and orange on these during the tumble process. Difficult material to tumble, usually splits at any/every point in the process. Occasionally I retain the additional colors (as shown below).

I went to a flea market this morning and I saw a neat carved pyrite dragon skull in a jewelry vendors booth. I was skeptical at first that it was real (for the price), but, upon closer inspection it seemed legit. I thought the white quartz inclusions add a nice touch.

Photo #268Originally this piece of basalt in quartz was completely even. Tumbling undercut the basalt against the quartz to form an unusual shape. The snakes eyes are cloudy because it is starting the shedding process.

Fall is a difficult season for rock-hounding in New England. The leaves not only fall in the woods, but, into the lakes and streams as well...
