Thanks, Diane! Without googling and running the risk of showing how uneducated I still am when it comes to rocks, I'm assuming the cinnabar is the red? You are indeed correct. The cinnabar is the red. Here is a good article on Plasma Agate: Plasma AgateThanks, that was interesting- now I want to get more... It might be obvious to you more experienced than me, but here's what it said- "The softer areas tend to undercut, so by wetting the slab and watching it dry, the softer, more porous areas, which tend to soak up the water and dry first, will reveal the more solid agate areas." That will definitely help when I go to cab it again. Thanks Diane!

wow that dino bone is killer! Thank you, sir! Such a nice slab, I was hoping the cabs would turn out. I started on the second of the two I could get from it last night. I left it bigger to show more of the incredible pattern and colors. If I get a chance to finish shaping it tonight I'll post a pic tomorrow. I'm sure I'll wrap them both- but I'm not sure I'll be able to get rid of either one of them...

I have heard of people stabilizing it with starbond glue before cabbing it especially if the agate is in the middle of a soft area so they can get a decent sized cab. What's interesting is that I've had people tell me they would not buy a slab of Plasma Agate because it is dangerous because of the cinnabar and asbestos. I just looked at them and said if they were planning on eating the slab then definitely don't buy it...lol. I know a lot of people who work that material and love it. Laters, Diane

I haven't eaten any either but I have heard of stone soup...lol.

You've got a great group of cabs, Mike. I especially like the last group of three and your amethyst, and look forward to seeing how you take advantage of their interesting shapes and patterns. Thanks, Gary! I've got some more of the amethyst to work and I think it took a great polish. It was kind of a test piece since I'd never worked it before. Nice job man. I have no luck with amethyst.
