That rock isn't great. It's STUNNING. Any chance you remember where the original stone is from? Asking for a friend...
Love it.

That big rock shop in Canon City, CO. Huge rough yard. Amazing place. This might have been their smallest piece.

Bah!
Last time I went to CO I was sick as a dog, keep meaning to go back, and now that I theoretically could, Covid is salt in that wound.

Here's my attempt to classify this material.
Type: Metamorphic rock (metamorphosed Quartz sandstone w up to 20% inclusions). Common worldwide. Subtype: Aventurine Subtype: color green = Green Aventurine. The color is caused by embedded Fuchite particles.
Common in India. Mohs 6.5.

Oh my God - This is a beautiful rock - I love green stones, I just got back to tumbling after my last tumbler bit the dust during a storm. I haven't tumbled any green stuff yet, since I want to get my process down before going after something I really care about.
Once I've got it solid and know that it's working, I'll be going after something like this!

Fun that others like this rock too. It's certainly one of my top 5 favs. I have a lot of small pieces of green aventurine about to enter polish next month. Most 1" or smaller. And some of the yellow. It's weird stuff and annoys me a lot. Sometimes I wonder if a fracture just keeps propagating because it seems at times they never get ground out. In the 4th photo, upper corner, you can see a fracture that were it to break would remove a very large part of the rock across that corner. I was torn as to what to do. On some rocks, the Opticon treatment works well in terms of the fractures almost disappearing, such as with crystal quartz. I was pleasantly surprised how well Opticon made this corner fracture rather hard to see. You can also see it again from a different side in the 6th photo on the right.

Hey first off thanks for doing your threads on “tumbling large rocks”
We just started hunting and have ended up with a lot of roughs that will definitely not fit into a 3 lb barrel.
What tumbler are you using? Did I miss the thread calling out your strategy? I’m planning on upgrading to something bigger and this thread inspired me to do it faster.

I don't have anything that small. A thread titled lurker no more or something like that is one I posted a few months ago about my setup.

Hi Bob! I am new to tumbling just about 9 months. I hope you don't mind, I am reading all your posts! You mentioned using 220 on this beauty. Can you explain why? I can guess lol but I would love to hear the correct answer. I did try a batch early on, and didn't finish. I realized I was not quite ready for that. Lots of bruising.

That is absolutely beautiful. Something about large polished stones just gets me. I would love to hear more detail about your process! What size tumbler, what type of filler, how long you polished it… It would be a fascinating story to me!
