So, I was perusing the forum and did a search for any thread dedicated to the favorite YouTube channels of members and didn't find anything. I saw a recent post by kyoti mentioning some favorite channels. There are so many different types of channels on lapidary "arts" out there (some good - some bad), I thought maybe we could contribute some of our favorite channels in one thread. (Mods - if you think this is a bad idea, you can scrap it...or maybe sticky it if you REALLY like it! LOL ) If you think you might want to contribute, would you please provide the following, it would be enormously helpful: 1. Name of the Channel 2. Link to the Channel 3. What Does It Mainly Focus On (e.g. Tumbling, Cab Making, Saw Building, Gem Cutting, Etc. - This will help when people "search" for videos on the forum.) 4. Why You Like This Particular Channel (If you want and have time to do this one. ) I'm really curious as to what some of y'all are watching and why! (Pun was intended in the title! LOL)

Whoot Whoot! Thanks kyoti! That's a heckuva start! I'm subscribed to both The Agate Dad and Michigan Rocks. I like the absolute ENTHUSIASM of Agate Dad. His outlook is almost infectious (in a good way)! I know Michigan Rocks is a member on here ( Jugglerguy) and I think he provides some of the best instructional videos that are out there - whether tumbling, hounding, or making pendants (and more stuff!) - he's got a lot going on!

Neat topic. I don't really sub to anyone other than Rob's channel. But here is one of my favorites. He is more of a discoverer than lapidary. He does a lot of field work in California, and finds some of the coolest Jasper Agates that I have seen anywhere. He tumbles, and also makes crafts from his stones as well. He is a prospector, but enjoys the nature and geology of California more than anything else. Quest for Details - www.youtube.com/channel/UCuWAJM_eZwALqPva3JEzDDw

NevadaBill - that's a good one! I just checked it out. He does some metal detecting too. Maybe I can get my wife to watch some of those vids...that way she might finally use the metal detector I bought her for her birthday a couple years ago...which hasn't been used once yet! LOL

LOL I can relate, Jason. And I wish you the best of luck in doing so. I imagine that it can be very relaxing and exciting at the same time digging around old mining dumps.
Nathan (Quest) is on a life long challenge to discover the mysteries left behind by the past. He does a great deal of Gold Mining and Metal Detecting. He builds walls and puts in floors which are created from gems and minerals which he finds. He is full of energy and posts often. I hope you enjoy!

I'm ashamed that I forgot Quest for Details. That was the first rockhounding channel that I found. His videos are interesting and very relaxing to watch. There was one video where he and his daughter mountain biked out to a lake in a very rural area. It looked like something from Tolkien's Middle-earth! It was so beautiful there. I agree that he finds some of the most beautiful Jasper's I have ever seen.

A newer channel that I really enjoy is Rockhounding Life. I don't think Jason from the channel is a member here, but it's a good channel. www.youtube.com/channel/UCuYng49_kuFmueD_Nziwi2AThis channel is mostly rockhounding and some tumbling/polishing. I like the channel because it is a three young boys and their dad, who find really nice stuff in Nova Scotia. They seem like a really nice family and it's nice to see the boys all out doing something with their dad. The dad, Jason, also has some geology background.

A lot of times, it's the demeanor of the person doing the videos which make me come back for more. I know that's half the reason I like The Agate Dad. I'll definitely be checking these guys out! Sometimes it's fun just to watch others do the hounding in places we may never get to go to...on the other hand, sometimes it gives us incentives to visit places we may never have considered! Good addition to the thread! I just ran across him the other day when I was researching DIY flat cabbers and slant cabbers. He really has a TON of videos on his channel.

It's funny, I just discovered Rockhounding Life last night too. YouTube popped it up as a suggestion for me. They find the most gorgeous fortification agates up there. I'll definitely watch this channel going forward :-)

jasoninsdYou don’t need to explain or apologize for your fine pun. Puns are a sign of wit, and good luck comes to the punster. Carry on.

Awesome contribution right here Amy! I love his tone in his speaking. He's an amazing "public" speaker. This guy is to mineral studies for adults like Bill Nye The Science guy is toward science for kids (and big kids like me )! jasoninsd You don’t need to explain or apologize for your fine pun. If you like videos finding gold in BC, my two favs are Pioneer Pauly and D'arcy Cooper. Pauly is a friend and is expanding into some rockhounding. We had plans last summer for him to visit Ontario for crystals and silver, but travel restrictions got in the way. Unfortunately, D'arcy has stopped posting videos but I still think his content was great. Pauly: www.youtube.com/user/ArtifaXtremeD'arcy: www.youtube.com/user/hixonAu

These two channels will definitely be worth checking out! jasoninsd I'm gonna sticky this. It's already a good resource and should only get better. Thanks for bringing it up. Awesome Tela. Glad I was able to think of something positive to contribute.
