Cool looking rock. I found a couple down here that had a texture very similar. I said oh my gosh oh my gosh dinosaur skin woot woot.. but no it wasn't for me. ππ They were really cool on the inside though. One of them was tan with black hematite looking balls in it and the other one has little bubbles of quartz in it. I'll take a picture of them tomorrow when there's daylight. Of course I'd love to see pics! LOL Were you ever able to determine what type of rock yours is? Until I can get a 100% positive ID on what this is, I don't want to cut it...just in case it's something other than a mudball! LOL

Here are a couple I found. One looks like a chert with hematite inclusions and the other I can' 't figure out. Looks kind of like Graveyard point material. Sort of opaly- agate? Those are really cool find! Thank you so much for posting the pics. I think on mine, the dark brown pattern goes all the way through the interior of the rock...

Take it to a local university or road trip to the Larson brothers in SD and let them ID it for you...

Take it to a local university or road trip to the Larson brothers in SD and let them ID it for you... I really do need to take it down to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. They have a pretty decent geology department there and would likely ID it in 10 seconds. I just haven't done that yet...it's about 10 minutes from the house. LOL
