All three look excellent! The Brazilian agate is particularly lovely and I was hoping for the up-to-the-light shot to show it off! Thank you so much! It didn't "dawn" on me that I should a take shot like that until Ed brought it up...then a "light bulb" went off in my head. To be honest, I hadn't held it up to the light after the cab was done until I took that picture! LOL. I had done it before I cut the preform, but not after...sheesh! Considering you were working on them until 1:30 in the morning, I can cut you a little slack on that one. That’s when the lights should be going off and not on. 😀

jasoninsd Typically, jaspers are opaque and agates are translucent. Cabs are lookin’ good. Thank you so much! Thanks for correcting me on that...I probably need to stop staying up so late, or start drinking way more coffee in the morning! ps...I enjoy your sense of humor in a lot of your posts... LOL - I started working on cabs last night thinking I might pull another late night, but I just couldn't do it last night and crashed out around 10:00. Thank you so much Mike!

I’m amazed. How far you’ve come in such a short time. Pro level cabs, loving them all.

I think I might just be taking the pictures are the best angles! LOL I know I still have a ways to go before I'm "comfortable" and "confident" with making these.

Nice work jasoninsd It’s not too late to bevel the bottom edge. You can tell a lot about cabs or tumbled rocks by feel. The bevel on the bottom will make your cabs feel better. That is some beautiful work. Well done! You’re lucky to live where you do. I spent 6 months working in Camp Crook SD. Every weekend was spent hounding. I brought home lots of good rock and pet wood. My best find was a black skin agate on the road to Scenic SD.

My best find was a black skin agate on the road to Scenic SD. Thank you so much Brent! Camp Crook is just a couple hours north of me. I haven't hounded anything up that direction, but I've heard there's a ton of petrified wood up in that area. I've also heard there's a lot of shark teeth up in that area as well...apparently you're not supposed to keep them if you find them. Nice agate find right there! I keep meaning to get over to Scenic to hound over that direction, but I keep getting drawn toward Fairburn and Railroad Buttes. When Spring rolls around, Scenic and Teepee Canyon are going to be priorities for hounding...and I agree and know I'm lucky to be in the area that I am for hounding.

That’s a funny agate jasoninsd It’s pure black on the outside. Pure white on the inside with a 1/2” of very clear agate between the two. I was extremely lucky to find it. I got four preforms ready to dop. One big tiger eye, two crazy lace and one unknown jasper.

I've never seen anything like it down in southern SD, where I usually go hounding. All four of those are going to make amazing cabs! That unknown looks familiar, but I can't place what it is...and of course I'm crazy for Crazy Lace! LOL - I especially like the pattern you captured in the one on the left. I've got some Laguna Lace that I started slabbing recently and can't wait to make a couple cabs out of that stuff!

Hard to tell on my phone, but the unknown looks like it could be rhodonite with bustamite.
