What more could a guy ask for, good wine and good rocks..... Here is some bins of O.J. in the basement,at $25.00 a lb, Here is some for $15.00 a lb, Here is the wife looking at some saw scraps, Here is some wild looking stuff for about $35 a lb, that chunk weighed more than 200lbs, Look at the size of this pet. log, Look at all that roze quartz! Fine lookin stuff, Here is the big mama's of O.J. Some prime stuff here at $25.00 a lb. A 150 lb. chunk of O.J. about #30 chunks, Here is more big chunks of pet. wood with a deep redish color, Hope you all enjoyed my Gem Shop run...

Man, now THAT'S a rock shop!!!
Thanks for the tour. I'm sure it's nothing like being there, but it's a great journey all the same. I think if I were there I'd leave broke. What did they do...dig up the entire ocean jasper deposit and bring it to the store?

OMG I have got to get there! Thanks so much for posting the virtual tour. I was really wondering about what their ocean jasper looks like and now I know. It would be so much better traveling there and heading to the wine shop! I wish I could taste some of that about now too! LOL! Is it a wine shop or grocery type store? I hope you saved some of that primo ocean jasper for me and the others who haven't made it there yet!

Debs, it's not a grocery store, it is a winery. Cedarburg is an old town in eastern Wi. The winery is a restored 1860's woolen mill that was once the largest west of the Alleghenies . www.cedarcreekwinery.com/Rollingstone, Gene, that owns the Gem Shop was one of the men that discovered Ocean Jasper, in Madagascar. Thats why, I guess he has so much of it.

Wow oh Wow. That is almost a religious experience. It's kinda like Mecca for rockhounds. They just don't have stores like that here. Never ever let me in there with my credit card. Thanx for the photos of the afterlife. Joe

good thing you put that pic of the pet wood in there because that's when the post all came clear to me as pics from the gem shop and not what you got when you went to the gem shop. there was a loud sound about that time as my mouth snapped back shut lol. i was liking it better when i thought that was your set up in the basement : ). how many lbs did you bring home??

Okay, so it's kind of like the Amana Colonies that we have here in Iowa. They also have their own wineries and make their own special wines. They have one that is made with strawberries and rubarb. That one tastes great! Very good fruity taste. I did read that about the man that owns that rock shop. I think he also has a claim to it and is one of the few dealers in it. I would much rather buy from him that one the bidding wars on ebay with the Astro guys! Those prices can get unreal at times. Next time I will just head there since I live so close. Hopefully, I can make it some time this fall. It's fun to go up there at apple time! If you do, make sure you buy some honey crisp apples, if you like apples. They are the best!!!

Wow wow wow, thanks for sharing (or teasing!). How many rocks did you paw through before you picked out your rocks? When I stopped at DAH rock shop in Tucson, the only thing that pulled me away was the plane flight home! Seeing what the Gem Shop has, if I visited, I would not let a little thing like a plane flight keep me from thoroughly checking the place out. Hmmm, how do I convince my boss that I need to make a trip to Cedersburg? Cal

Thank you for the pictures, I felt like I was there. We have a rock shop about 35 min away and the owner is wacked... He has bins of rough rock and he eyeballs you nervously like your gonna steal from him, shady very shady. I often wonder what he has in the bins he won't let anyone go near. Anyway, wish there was a rock shop as cool as yours near me... Enjoy your rocks! Marian
