We went there last summer and picked a couple hundred pounds. Wondering if you heat treated it? No heat treating for me.

I cooked some flint ridge at coral temps of 600F toiv0. 600 was way to hot, ruined it and turned the whole batch 100% red. It must require a lower 400 to 450F. saxplayer's sure looked cooked but apparently not. It is just plain beautiful straight out of the ground.

From this forum Scott - www.tapatalk.com/groups/paleoplanet69529/heat-treating-flint-t30022.html"I would heat it. I also have bought some of that flint and it works better after heating it. Spall it out first if you know how. Then get yourself a turkey roaster(30.00 at wal-mart), remove the pan that comes with it, fill the roaster 3/4th's with play sand. push your spalls down into the sand till there burried. Heat the flint in stages start at 200 for 3-4 hours then kick it up 50 degrees an hour till its up to 450. Let it cook for 8 hours, Kill the heat and let it sit there with the lid on it for a day. Now its ready to use."

9. I love the duck in #9! And the blue streaks, too. That is some incredible looking material! Great variety of colors and patterns and it looks like it polishes up nicely, too. I was thinking the same thing! The duck! And it's floating away from it's pond on the right.

May I ask how you take your photos? You did an amazing job taking them. I have a light box, tripod, all of that stuff, but I just can't seem to take good photos. Yours are so detailed! Love!

I need to get back. I really do appreciate the group putting together a field trip there, back before Covid.

Hi, and thank you! I'll try and describe my process shortly. It's not rocket science but there is probably about $200-300 in equipment invested with my light box. I have found a decent setup that works, but am waiting to actually get a better macro lens for my camera. More details to come. Grant

I just throw them back as they are good for tumbling.

Great job!!!!!In my book, Flint Ridge material is one of the nicest material to tumble. So many color combinations and patterns that it is amazing. I especially love the examples with fossils, fortifications or nice crystal vugs.
