I do use it in tumbler's at the end of all stages. Borax, Ivory and Dawn all are doing the same thing for you......it lowers the surface tension of the water allowing the dirt sluff off the surfaces of the stones. They are anti-surfactants, they don't polish or smooth your stones.....in all stages a good burnish just takes off the film of dirt left on the stones The last burnish is what is giving that extra super shine. a TBSP per lb is our rule.

Three-pound Thumler’s barrels here. I usually put about a level teaspoon in every load when I fill the barrel. Wetting agent. Can’t hurt.
Second-to-last rinse after polish is another teaspoon of Borax for 5 or 10 minutes before final rinse in clean water.
I seldom use plastic pellets these days but when I did, they were rinsed clean, in the barrel, along with the rocks.
